The Bermuda College Eco Club is hosting its Sip/Swap/Slay fundraiser on Saturday, November 29.

A spokesperson said, “The community are invited to attend this fun fundraiser for Bermuda College Eco Club on Saturday November 29th at the Athene Lecture Hall at the Bermuda College campus.

“Sip/Sway/Slay will start at 6.00pm with a mini fashion show of thrifted items from P.A.L.S., a sustainable jewelry workshop led by Vanese Gordon-Flood, and a mini documentary highlighting how to be more responsible with what we wear and how we wear it. Following these mini workshops, the thrift store will open from 7:30pm to 9:30pm for guests to swap their pre-loved clothing. The workshops will be held in the Athene Lecture Hall with thrift store located on the second floor of Hallet Hall.

“This event was very successful the first time it was held in 2022. The local community really embraced the idea of swapping clothes and reducing their ecological footprint. BC Eco Club members felt it was important to host such an event again. The club has a few fundraising goals this academic year including sending BC Eco Club members on a sustainable education and stewardship trip, purchasing water stations so that students have access to clean, affordable and safe drinking water on campus, waste stations to improve recycling and waste behaviours, supporting our environmental awareness campaigns and funding a scholarship for an Environmental Steward to attend Bermuda College.

“We are encouraging the public to drop off their pre-loved clothing in a labelled ‘sip/swap/slay’ bag in advance of the event to the Bermuda College Library between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. until next Friday Nov 28th. Of course, you are able to bring up to 10 items on the night to swap. Make sure to get your ‘swap tokens’ to use in the pop-up shop on the night of the event.

“General admission is $10 and patron tickets are $50, which include two free glasses of prosecco. Raffle tickets will be available for sale, as well as a cash bar. This is a cash only event. Tickets can be bought in advance on ptix.bm. Priority seating for the workshop will be given to those who purchase tickets on PTIX.

“The event will take place at Bermuda College Athene Lecture Hall on Saturday, November 29th from 6.00pm to 9.30pm. Doors will open from 5:30 p.m. This is a fundraiser event for the Bermuda College Eco Club with all the proceeds going to their initiatives for the year. All donated clothes that are not swapped will be given to the P.A.L.S Thrift Shop.

“We are excited for our partnerships this year. The event would not happen without the generous support of P.A.L.S., Recycle Bermuda, Gibbons Company, TK Hair, Bermuda Fudge Company, The Salvation Army, and Latte Coffee shop.”

Hugo Lightbourne, Eco Club member and Bermuda College student, said, “The Sip/Swap/Slay fundraiser provides people with an opportunity to both give away clothing in good condition, as well as gain some in return. It also strives to raise awareness as well as significance of adopting more responsible shopping behaviors in the community.”

Amy Harvey, Senior Lecturer in Environmental Science and Bermuda College Eco Club Mentor, said, “BC Eco Club and our members are a very active part of the greater Bermuda community holding events that aim to raise awareness about critical environmental issues that affect both our local and global community.

“Our members are advocates that are passionate about making the difference. They work hard and I hope the Bermuda community will embrace this event again as well as support ongoing initiatives that we have. We have an ongoing Eco Lunch and Learn series which will pick back up in Feb, Mar and Apr on the last Thursday of the month from 1-2 p.m. in the Athene Lecture Hall.

“This is a free event, and past lectures can be found on the Bermuda College YouTube channel. We are also hosting a football tournament on the afternoon of Sunday February 22nd to help support the trees for scores initiative that the Youth Climate Summit is advocating for.

“Finally, our annual Trashion Show will be on the evening of Saturday, March 21st during the Cosplay Chaos event hosted by BC Village. These events help us to achieve our mission of raising environmental awareness and promoting sustainable behaviours.”

The spokesperson said, “For more information, please contact bcecoclub@college.bm or follow us on IG #bcecoclub.”
