Minister Thanks People Who Attended Town Hall
The Ministry of National Security today “extended its thanks to the many residents who attended Monday night’s town hall meeting on gang violence at Penno’s Wharf in St. George’s.”
A Government spokesperson said, “Minister of National Security Michael Weeks said the strong turnout reflected the community’s awareness and concern about this issue.”
“I was pleased to note that the East End town hall meeting was very well attended, and I even noticed people there who were not from the East End,” said Minister Weeks.
“People came ready to talk, to share their frustrations, and to demand better. That tells me the community is paying attention, and that is a good thing.
“I was encouraged that many of those who spoke at the town hall focused on offering constructive ideas and solutions. That is exactly the kind of dialogue we are hoping for as we continue this important community conversation.”
Minister Weeks added that the St. George’s meeting was both productive and eye-opening. “It reminded us that this problem is bigger than any one neighbourhood. It affects all of Bermuda, and it is going to take all of Bermuda to fix it.”
A Government spokesperson added, “The Minister reminded the public that the next town hall, the third in the ongoing series, will take place on Monday, 17 November, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Dalton E. Tucker Primary School, 7 Middle Road, Southampton.
“The event will again feature His Excellency the Governor Andrew Murdoch, Minister Weeks, and Commissioner of Police Darrin Simons. Members of the public are encouraged to attend, share practical ideas, and contribute to the solution.”

I can only surmise that no one present asked a question that the Minister did not like.
I like the idea of town meetings.
The problem in Bermuda however are young adults unable to get ahead. Getting ahead solution is not defined as “giving” but “earning” ; setting up service at the Bermuda Regiment and proving incentives for this eg favorable house financing, trade education, access to housing eg why are we hoarding Morgan’s Point property? I heard about some medical school ? How does that help ? It provides a place for more people (students from oversees) that require accommodation higher and higher rents ….
Bermuda is very wealthy, let’s cut number of political members and raises
how many backbenchers do we need ?

Clearly you have not attended one and asked the “wrong” question. I have and I did. I was then surrounded by “security” personnel, grabbed and told to leave. There was a clear underlying threat of assault.
The concept of free speech under the PLP Government has been dead for years.
