Bermudian bodybuilder Alvina Brangman said she was proud of her “amazing experience” after strong performances at the NPC Worldwide Caribbean Grand Prix Bahamas Pro Qualifier at the Atlantis Resort at the weekend.
The 52-year-old competed in the women’s physique open and masters’ classes at the regional qualifier before returning later in the day for the pro qualifier.
Brangman won the open and masters’ titles in the regional show, placed fifth in the open at the pro qualifier, and claimed victory in the masters’ category.
“This was an amazing experience stepping on the stage again at the age of 52,” Brangman said. “This sport is not for many, for it is selfish and requires a lot of sacrifice.
“I actually don’t see that as a win because I was the only one in my class for the open, and for the masters’ class, there were two of us [in the regional qualifier].”
Brangman, who trains at Magnum Power Force Gym, needed to win the open class at the pro qualifier to earn her professional card – a status regarded by many athletes as the sport’s pinnacle.
“Am I disappointed? I am a bit, but I am happy with the improvements I have made and still have a long way to go,” she said. “The anatomy and the transformation of the body are truly amazing and captivate me.
“I guess that’s why I retire and then come out of retirement. I love a challenge.”
Brangman thanked her overseas coaches, Shelby Starnes and posing coach Kenny Wallach, along with friends, family and sponsors for their support.

You did well best wishes.
