Kaden Hopkins Reflects On ‘Freak Crash’
Cyclist Kaden Hopkins has reflected on the “freak crash” that left him needing surgery for a broken collarbone on the eve of his debut season with Belgian team Atom6-Cycleur de Luxe Auto Stroo.
The 25-year-old was injured on the final climb of a pre-season training camp in Calpe, Spain, last week and has since undergone successful surgery at Benidorm Hospital.
Hopkins, who raced for Unisportlamentinois in Guadeloupe last season, said he has accepted the situation and is focused on his return.
“Last week wrapped up with a bit of misfortune on the last day,” Hopkins wrote on social media.
“A freak crash at the end of our final training left me in hospital with a broken collarbone and a lot of disappointment.
“It’s a pretty big downer on what has otherwise been a perfect build up to the season, but after a few days in a hospital bed, with more than enough time to come to terms with the situation, I’ve accepted it for what it is.
“I’m out of hospital now after a successful surgery, and motivated to get back to work for the start of the season.
“Thank you to everyone for their messages, to Atom6-Cycleur de Luxe Auto Stroo staff and riders for helping me after the crash, and especially to Diego Milan for making sure I’m never going through these tests alone.”
