Uvir Naidoo, known by the gamer tag ‘Uveezy,’ won the top prize at the ESports Bermuda Tekken 8 tournament held this weekend.

A spokesperson said, “Uvir Naidoo with gamer tag ‘Uveezy’ took the top prize at the Tekken 8 tournament this weekend. ESports Bermuda Ltd. put on their third local tournament, this time focused on a traditional ESport fighting game, which players voted to be Tekken. This rounds out the previous simulated sporting game [EA FC], and team-based shooting game [Call of Duty] which they organized last year.

“Hosted by Paradise Mobile, there were 12 Tekken ESports champions, all vying to be known as Bermuda’s top fighter, with several more attendees both in person, and on the live Twitch stream. The ESports Bermuda group had four different commentators, as well as a tournament director on-site keeping the energy going, and the matches in line.

“Everyone there was keen to see who would be the winner, and several players had brought their own ‘hit-box’ rather than using the standard PlayStation controller. There were a mixture of players from different backgrounds and ages, but each player showed respect and camaraderie for the love of the game.

“In third place was Liam Pearse also known as ‘Kringus’ who held his own against the other players. He was actually the first person in line to sign up, as soon as the tournament registration opened. He used multiple characters for the tournament including ‘Law’, ‘Lee’ and ‘Leo’.

“In second place was Denishun Furbert also known as ‘Crawl-Man293’ who was also a participant in the recent Call of Duty tournament that ESports Bermuda had put on. He tended to play as the character ‘Hwoarang’.

“The competition was so close between Uvir and Denishun that they had both ‘reset’ their matches to start back at 0 each, in order to see who was the overall winner. In the end it came down to the final move in the final stage in the final round, where Uvir edged out on top with his favorite character ‘Lili’.

“This tournament was made possible, thanks to sponsorship from Audio Visual Electronics, Red Laser and Gear n Gadget Ltd. ESports Bermuda was pleased with the turn-out for this tournament and are looking forward to putting on another Call of Duty tournament in the next few months.”

Founder Adrian Lodge stated “It was great to see Bermuda’s talent come out and compete. This is the start of building a larger gaming community within Bermuda, to see which players are able to represent Bermuda on an international stage and compete globally. We’ve received requests from local gamers asking for us to host various games including GeoGuessr, Brawlhalla, League of Legends, Mortal Kombat and others.’

The spokesperson said, “ESports Bermuda is the island’s official representative for the Global ESports Federation [GEF], and the World Esports International Organization.
