Bermuda College Signs MOU With ASU
Bermuda College has signed a memorandum of understanding with Arizona State University, creating what they called a “new framework for academic and scientific collaboration between the two institutions.”
A spokesperson said, “The agreement will support opportunities for faculty development and exchange, student exchange, joint events, and the sharing of teaching methods, publications and course design.
“The MOU strengthens Bermuda College’s international links and complements its wider work to connect students and faculty with respected overseas institutions.
“The College already has more than 40 articulation agreements with colleges and universities in the United Kingdom, the United States and Canada.
“These agreements provide students with routes to continue their studies overseas after completing programmes at Bermuda College.
“Dr Ali Arouzi, Vice-President of Academic Affairs at Bermuda College, said the agreement with ASU was a positive step for the College and its students.”
“This Memorandum of Understanding provides a strong platform for collaboration with Arizona State University,” Dr Arouzi said. “It creates opportunities to exchange knowledge, support faculty development, explore student mobility and share academic practice. These are important areas for Bermuda College as we continue to build international relationships that benefit our students, our faculty and the wider community.”
The spokesperson said, “Arizona State University already has a significant presence in Bermuda through the ASU Bermuda Institute of Ocean Sciences, known as ASU BIOS.
“The Bermuda-based institute became part of ASU in 2021 and is now linked to the university’s Julie Ann Wrigley Global Futures Laboratory. ASU BIOS supports ocean science, atmospheric research, environmental monitoring and education.
“Its location in Bermuda, on the edge of the Sargasso Sea in the North Atlantic, provides a valuable base for ocean research and observation.
“Dr Arouzi said the connection added an important local dimension to the new agreement.”
“ASU’s relationship with Bermuda through BIOS makes this MOU especially meaningful,” he said. “It allows us to consider future academic and scientific collaboration with an institution that already understands Bermuda’s role in ocean research and international education.”
Dr Dan Cox, Dean of Natural Sciences at ASU, said, “Arizona State University is excited to partner with Bermuda College to advance opportunities for student and faculty development and exchange between our institutions, share innovative teaching methods and course designs, and facilitate four-year undergraduate degree pathways for Bermudian students.
“We look forward to working together to promote student and faculty success.”
The spokesperson said, “Bermuda College said the next phase of the MOU would focus on establishing articulation agreements with ASU in areas including Actuarial Science, Marine Science and Insurance Studies.”
