Nahki Wells Enjoying Senior Role At Luton
Luton Town forward Nahki Wells is embracing his role as a senior figure in a squad featuring several emerging young players this season.
The 36-year-old, who has made more than 600 first-team appearances, said he is enjoying mentoring talented youngsters at the Sky Bet League One club, including 18-year-olds Benny Benagr and Harry Fox.
Wells, who made his professional debut for Carlisle United at the age of 20, told Luton Today: “I’m the grandfather to them!
“They’re half my age, all of them, but as a senior player, you need youth around you and as young players, you need seniority and that’s what we have.”
“I still feel young and fit as a fiddle. I’m not an 18-year-old, but we bounce off each other. They understand me, I understand them.
“Obviously I wasn’t that age as a young professional, but I was a young player once and I knew how important pointers, information, someone being stern on me and pushing me, that’s what I feel I need to do as a senior player.
“Sometimes let them know if they’re not doing enough and sometimes encourage them and give them tips.
“They’re all young top talents, they’re all going to go to the very top if they can be humble and players like myself have to play that role to help them.”
