Business Bermuda Student Network Awards

August 18, 2010

Approximately 250 students and over 225 professionals representing all sectors of Bermuda’s working community were in attendance at the Business Bermuda College Student Networking Event event on 22nd July. Throughout the event, students were evaluated not only by members of Business Bermuda’s Local Awareness Committee, but by the networking professionals and seminar leaders who were also in attendance. The students also had the chance to win a range of great prizes worth thousands of dollars, which were sponsored by local businessess.

Speaking about the event, Business Bermuda CEO, Cheryl Packwood said:

The event is aimed at teaching people about the importance of who you meet and the impressions you make. The people we meet who provide us with advice shape our lives, both professional and personal. You really never know who may ultimately put you in contact with the individual or individuals who will give you entry into the workforce or that next great job. Indeed, most likely, that person will not be in your actual chosen field and this is what our event is all about.

We do know that one student who cannot be here today – Sarah DeSilva – made the right impression and spoke to the right people at the event, as she is training for her new job at the Fairmont Southampton today. I have to say that the feedback about the students from all the professionals who were in attendance I spoke to this year was incredibly positive. They all remarked on the high caliber of the students with whom they interacted.”

Ms. Packwood was joined by the Chairman of Business Bermuda, Vicki Coelho and representatives from sponsor companies including Butterfield, Bermuda Commercial Bank, KPMG, Appleby, North Rock Communications, Emergence, Ernst & Young, Endurance, Capital G, Allied World Assurance Company, The Office of the Accountant General, Bermuda Gas, PricewaterhouseCoopers and Aardvark. Prizewinners were announced by Ms. Packwood and certificates presented by representatives from sponsor companies.

I thank everyone for the support you have given us and will continue to give us as we continue to support the development of Bermuda’s next tier of professionals.”

Congratulations to all of you students in what you have achieved, not only during the networking event, but also in all that you’ve achieved as you move towards the career of your choice. I look forward to having your involvement on the professional side of the event in a very short time!
