Upcoming: Non-Mariners Race This Sunday
Strange water craft will take to the waters tomorrow, as the annual Non-Mariners Race will take place at Mangrove Bay in Sandys Parish this coming Sunday [July 31], starting at 10am.
Th event is said to have started decades ago when a group of drinking buddies, for some unknown reason, debated the flotation properties of baby carriages, and a few days later ended up attempting to sail a baby carriage from Albuoy’s Point to Whites Island. This unsuccessful boating attempt is said to be the start of the Non-Mariners Race.
Organizers list the schedule of activities for this year’s event as:
- Sandys Boat Club will be opened for the Non-Mariners Race July 31st 2011 @ 10am
- Non-Activities start with:
- Non-Penguins Fly Past 1:14pm + 63 sec.
- Non-Noodle Race 1:30pm + 64 sec.
- Non-Memorial to our Mass-Cot 1:47pm + 69 sec.
- Non-Calypso Pipe Band 2:29pm + 84 sec.
- Non-Float Race 3:00pm + 67 sec.
