Commissioner For A Day Winners 2011
As part of Police Week 2011, seven young people were chosen to be ‘Commissioners for a Day’ which was the prize for winning an annual essay and art competition held by the Bermuda Police Service for primary and middle school students across the island.
As Police Week 2011’s theme is ‘Policing in the Community’ the students were asked to produce an essay or piece of artwork that captured their interpretation of police officers working in the community.
The winning essays and artwork were chosen based on their originality and their connection to this year’s theme of Policing in the Community.
The winners are:
- Sh’niyah Akinstall – age 8 from West Pembroke School
- Cairi Albuoy – age 10 from Harrington Sound School
- Amayah Burt – age 5 from West Pembroke School
- Steven Camara – age 10 from Purvis Primary School
- Tariq Simons – age 10 from Purvis Primary School
- Tazaiah Raynor – age 11 from Whitney Institute
- Mia Webb – age 9 from West Pembroke School
These Commissioners for a Day started off their morning with a mock briefing with Commissioner of Police Michael Desilva. From there they toured the Hamilton Police Station, Dame Lois Browne-Evans court building, Marine Unit and Police Headquarters. The winners and their families also enjoyed lunch with members of the Senior Command.
The Bermuda Police Service would like to congratulate these young people for their winning entries which in their own words show how the police and the community can effectively work together.
