TCD Online Renewal Transaction Change

October 8, 2012

The Transport Control Department [TCD] advised that starting today [Oct 8], online renewal transactions will be limited to Colonial, BF&M, Argus and Freisenbruch-Meyer policy holders.

A spokesperson said: “The above providers are the only local motor vehicle insurers linked to the TCD operating system in real time so that when customers are renewing their private vehicle licences online, a current insurance policy will appear as valid at the TCD.

“The Department became aware of some vehicles being licensed online without having a current insurance policy; even though customers claimed they had done so.

“The four approved insurers cover approximately 90% of the motoring public. Those whose insurance is with other carriers will now have to come to TCD to renew their private vehicle licences and provide proof of valid insurance.

“The management and staff of the TCD apologise for any inconvenience this necessary change may cause.”

    I think TCD are not telling the whole truth here.

    My bike expires end of July in the year. Have been relicensing this bike for the last 5 years online.

    Back in JUNE of this year I took my bike to be examined…passed.

    Visited Coloniel the next day to renew the insurance – fine..paid the fee – got the certificate. Specifically asked when will TCD know that I’ve paied the insurance. The clerk said right away.

    3 DAYS LATER, went online to my TCD account to renew the licensing…went through each page…paid my $115.00, got my electronic receipt and chose “Collect the next day at TCD”.

    Went to TCD 2 days later to collect the new registration form and sticker and the receptionist told me my insurance wasn’t up to date. I disagreed and asked her how was I able to get to the point of paying for the next years licensing if the insurance file from Colonial had not been passed to them. She shruggled her shoulders…

    I had to travel all the way back home to get the certificate to prove to TCD the insurance WAS paid. I was then able to get my new reg and sticker. So much for online quick renewal if I still had to make TWO trips to TCD to finish the transaction.

    Come clean TCD – whats the real problem ??? Did your programming consultant screw up?

      @smith:

      That’s easy – the clerk at Colonial lied about TCD being informed of your renewed insurance for the new year right away.

      Your situation is the reason why TCD has moved to this new policy.
