Video: Sunday June 14th: “Good News” Spotlight

News that Bermudian singer and actor Nicholas Christopher attended the Tony Awards in New York after earning a nomination for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Musical, that people can now rent electric minicars directly at L.F. Wade International Airport through Rugged Rentals, and that Fire Wayne won the 2026 Carnival in Bermuda Singer Songwriter Competition were among the positive news stories from the past week.

In additional good news, Elizabeth Christopher, Lionel Cann, John Paul Skinner and Troy Farnsworth were recognised in the King’s 2026 Birthday Honours and Awards, Constable MacNab completed the NPCC Police Dog Instructors Course and became the first female Police Dog Instructor within the Bermuda Police Service, and sisters Raelyn Robinson and Reyna Robinson won five gold medals and one silver medal at the Ultimate Athletics Abu Dhabi Championships.

Other positive stories included Sakari Famous winning the women’s high jump at the John Green/Texas Greatest Athlete Invitational in Texas, Conduit Re being named the winner of Bermuda Hospitals Board’s Corporate Blood Drive 2025-26, Bermuda College and Google launching a programme offering 500 Bermuda residents free access to online career and digital skills training through 2027, and Support Public Schools, Bermuda inspiring more than $17,300 in new school supplies for public schools.

Further good news included Hudson Ferris being named the inaugural recipient of the Deloitte Bermuda John Johnston “Leadership with Integrity” Scholarship, 27 young people earning the Gold Award through the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award Bermuda, Sydney Rego and Catrina Furtado being selected for the FLAD Summer Program Azores 2026, Abby Charles being crowned Miss Arizona for America, Shiona Turini styling WNBA player Cameron Brink, and the Butterfield Bermuda Championship announcing that the 2025 tournament generated more than $1.4 million in charitable impact.
