The title bout of the ‘Fight Night 15 The Rematch‘ ended in a disappointing draw on Saturday night [Feb 2], with the WBC World Middleweight belt remaining vacant yet again.
There were eleven bouts scheduled for the night, with the big fight of the night between WBA Champion Teresa Perozzi [Bermuda] and WIBA Champion Tori Nelson [USA] for the World Boxing Council Women’s World Middleweight Championship.
After a hard fought ten rounds that saw both fighters hit the mat, the fight ended in a draw repeating the results from their previous match-up in October 2012.
Judge William Boodhoo scored the bout 96-95 to Perozzi, Jack Woodburn had it 97-94 for Nelson, while Julie Lederman had it even at 95-95. Steve Smoger served as referee.
The crowd, which was obviously rooting for a win for Bermuda’s Perozzi, expressed dissatisfaction with the draw, with a chorus of ‘boos’ raining down after the result was announced.
Speaking after the fight, Perozzi said, “I don’t know what to say. I am tired of saying I have to respect the judges but that is what it comes down to. I definitely felt I pulled it out, especially the last few rounds.”
