Man Fined $1000 For Using Offensive Words

May 7, 2013

Vincent Outerbridge, 39, pleaded guilty in Magistrates Court this morning [May 7] to using offensive words to police officers in April 2013.

Senior Magistrate Archie Warner heard that the Police had been alerted to an incident on Harbour Road in Warwick. On arrival, at around 2:15pm, they came upon Mr Outerbridge who appeared to have been drinking and who said that he had been involved in a scuffle with another person.

Police evidence read by Crown Prosecutor Ms Sofianos was that Mr Outerbridge had told Police: “F&^% you you f&^%$#@ Oreo. You should be white.”

Ms Sofianos also said that Mr Outerbridge had asked Police: “Are you going to give me a ride home? I pay my taxes.”

Speaking for himself, Mr Outerbridge, said that he had first asked politely for a ride home and that he had been involved in an altercation with the driver of the car that he had been riding in and had been injured in the incident.

The Senior Magistrate fined Mr Outerbridge $1,000 on the offensive words charge.

honest question: why did he consider it an insult to tell the officer ‘you should be white’? what exactly does he mean by that?

  3. Y-Gurl says:

Saying anything to the cops seems to be offensive to them, try telling them to do their job! They are a protected bunch with a huge sense of entitlement and have an expectation the rules they are employed to apply don’t apply to them.

I agree. But the whole society walks around in Bermuda, the majority of them with a stiff rod up their back-sides.
The Gaming issue, the ability to make some people a little happier on Harbor nights, by serving inflated priced alcohol through creative street vendors. That’s just for a few hours too. People cant buy alcohol after 9 pm or on Sundays. How god damned Victorian are we?
No surprise that a big burly cop might get hurt feelings because somebody offended him with a few words.
I’m offended when people spit or chew gum. I’m certainly not trying to legislate any laws because I’m offended by them!
Our society is more like “Pleasantville”, if you’ve ever seen that movie.

Physically grown but mentally unable to behave. The only thing funny about these situations the odd chance to hear the Crown Prosecutor read this $#*} out loud in court.

  5. Larry Woolgar says:

Absolutely ridiculous. Somebody said some bad words. Oh, shut your ears, so you are no longer offended by the use of words.
