Bradford City Reject First Bid For Nahki Wells

January 3, 2014

nahki wells bradford[Updated] Bradford City have rejected the first  bid for Bermudian striker Nahki Wells, according to the latest report from the Telegraph & Argus.

“The mystery bidders have not been identified but QPR, Wolves, Huddersfield and Blackburn have all been strongly linked with the 15-goal hitman,” the report stated.

Director of Operations David Baldwin confirmed: “We’ve had one formal bid for the player. It is improved on what Peterborough offered in the summer but it’s not where the club want to be.

“There will possibly be other offers. But when they occur, the club will act accordingly on the information we receive.

“We can’t do more than that. But from a football perspective, Nahki continues to go out there and hopefully carry on scoring goals.

“Unless we see any other offers coming through, which we feel are worth considering, Nahki remains very much a Bradford City player and part of our plans.”

Bradford City joint chairman Mark Lawn recently confirmed that both Premier League and Championship teams have shown interest in Wells.

During an interview on Sky Sports News Radio, Mr Lawn declined to confirm the exact teams interested in the 23-year-old Bermudian striker, he did say that “more than one club” is interested and confirmed that Bradford had a “firm bid from one club.”

Mr Lawn said, “There’s been a couple of Premier League sides shown interest, a couple of Championship sides and a couple of others as well.”

Wells has become increasingly popular, scoring goal after goal, including one at Wembley Stadium which makes him the first and only Bermudian to score at the iconic stadium.

While the Club has declined to state the transfer fee they are hoping to receive, speculation suggests the former Dandy Town player will command a 7-figure transfer fee.

Update Jan 5: According to the UK’s Daily Star, this rejected bid was from Championship side Queens Park Rangers [QPR]. Their report said, “QPR have failed with a bid for Bradford’s highly-rated hotshot Nahki Wells.”

“Harry Redknapp was keen on the 15-goal Bermuda hitman, 23, to add some zip to his struggling strikeforce – which has netted only 26 times in 24 Championship games. But Rangers failed to match Bradford’s £2million asking price.”

Meanwhile, Sky Sports reports that QPR, Leeds United, Huddersfield, Blackburn Rovers and Middlesbrough all among those reportedly keen on signing Wells.

Bradford CITY has to put a price tag on him. I think roughly 5 or 6 million would do Bradford good. If they wait till the summer, the fee could drop as they would be pretty much forced to sell especially if Nahki doesnt sign a new deal..

That’s his Premier League Value….He is still one season in League One. 1.5 – 2.0m would be his price tag (with performance based add ons, and resale % clause)

  2. Supergood says:

Agree, he’s a good League 1 forward, but they never go for more than 2m.
