GP Plates Removed After “Threats To Safety”

March 6, 2014

[Updated] Some of the GP licence plates on Cabinet Minister’s cars have been removed following threats to the safety of Ministers, according to Minister Patricia Gordon-Pamplin.

The matter was initially brought up yesterday [Mar 5] in the House of Assembly by the Opposition, and in response Minister Gordon-Pamplin said, “There is no intention to trick anybody by changing a licence plate number.

“But I can tell you that as Minister, when I have been made aware that there are threats to safety of Ministers, that it is important to ensure that we try to minimise those challenges as much as we possibly can.

“And as a result of that, some of the licence plates have actually been changed from GP to a regular civilian plate number,” added the Minister.

Audio of part of Minister Gordon-Pamplin’s comments:

The Minister continued, “There is no need to hide anything on this side. I mean you can’t really hide a car. But I can assure Members that there is no intent to mislead, deceive or whatever.

“But when I look at the safety of our Ministers, it is paramount to me to ensure that any necessary steps are taken so that these problems do not exist.

“But there are things that need to be done in consultation with Special Branch and other parts of security forces that give us recommendations. And we will be foolhardy if we did not follow these recommendations.

“So I just ask Honourable Members if they want to know anything of any particular vehicle, I’m quite happy to answer the questions, I’m quite happy to answer them offline…because I think this is very important to recognise that we cannot throw caution to the wind when we have situations that may create a challenge for us.

“So I would ask Honourable Members to mindful of that, and there is nothing sinister about that particular move. It was decision I made, and I thought it was one that absolutely necessary to make.”

Update 4.54pm: The police have remained remained tight lipped on this matter, however we have requested additional information from the Minister and will update as able.

Update 7.27pm: A PLP spokesperson said, “Given the serious nature of these issues we will be expecting the Minister of National Security to provide the House with a Ministerial Statement tomorrow. Therefore we will reserve comment until that time.”‬

Update Mar 7th, 8.54pm: Neither Minister Gordon-Pamplin nor her spokesperson have responded to multiple requests yesterday from Bernews seeking clarification.

Nobody believes this. why because it did not come from the Minister responsible for security, Michael Dunkley. It is their way to get the cars back on the road when they said they would not. Watch and see them all back on and listen to the revelation that there were no threats.

    • The Fact says:

Seriously!!! Everything has to have a hidden agenda. The Minister of Security is not responsible for the security of the Ministers and is not responsible for the cars. He is responsible for something called “National Security”. Get a life and move on.

      • Don't Forget says:

When it comes to the OBA – we find out more often than not that everything has a hidden agenda!

        • frank says:

I never understood why a government minister that get paid over$100000 needs the tax payers to pay for a car take them all away and sell them

        • BETTTY TRUMP says:

REALLY, I do not believe this for one minute. This is merely an attempt to hide the FACT that UBPOba made such a big deal about GP cars pre-election, and now it has come back to bite them in the butt, they are trying to hide the fact they are in use by the MPs and others. TRANSPARENCY …I think NOT… but what’s new with this government?

          • Campervan says:

Its a little more believable than a bullet in the mail.

            • watching says:

the threat is believeable…the solution is not.

              • Mazumbo says:

So do you believe the threat that was on Dr. Brown?

                • More BS says:

MORE BULL S*** FROM THE OBA, PRE election we will not use GP cars lololol YEA ok

                  • Just Wondering says:

Just want some one to tell me are these GP cars that they see all the same type of car?

                  • LiarLiar says:

They never said that. What they stated is they would cut the GP fleet to save money. And as reported in another BDA media outlet a few months back the GP fleet has been cut by a third.

Try to stay at least a tiny bit truthful and stop attempting to rewrite history when railing against the Govt.

                    • watching says:

So they why did they park all of the blue ones at the quarry? was that all a PR move once elected? and now they are driving them one by one and relicensing them just to try and fool the electorate.

                    • LiarLiar says:

You do realize the GP fleet is comprised of more than just the Cabinet Minister’s cars right?

          • Fidel/Lenin says:

had to get your 2 cents in didn’t you. and as usual the same old side of the coin Go get a life.

          • Catherine says:

Well everyone believed Dr Ewart Browns life was in danger,a full time security and a fence around his house still up!!!

            • Mazumbo says:

The bullet was confirmed by the Police, waiting for a police conformation for this BS.

    • LiarLiar says:

      I believe them.

Just look on here everyday to see threats of violence which emanate from people who hate this Government.

I mean just yesterday the Deputy Leader (and by association the PLP) of the Opposition threatened a repeat of the ’65 Belco riots on the steps of the House. Threats of civil unrest was even included in their Throne Speech reply.

So yes I believe this completely.

      • Disturbing says:

Oh sure…. its the angry black people. Run for the hills.

Those crowds at Parliament were PEACEFUL compared to the rabid crowds that greeted Ewart Brown at cabinet, or surrounded the car of Zane DeSilva’s family at parliament.

As much as you want to blame angry black people, please remember the history!

Also, you should remember how the UBP slammed Ewart AFTER the police recommended he have protection due to threats!

As I said before, threats are a serious nature – but please don’t try to blame this for workers in a peaceful march for their rights. Far different than surrounding a car and banging on it!!!

        • Mazumbo says:

Don’t forget de one on de porch!

        • LiarLiar says:

          Facts are facts.

As reported yesterday Mr. Furbert had to remmind his fellow Unioners to show respect to the Premier after they continued to scream nasty little comments at him and Fahy.

These included ‘paper Bermudian go home’ etc while Burgess stated:

‘Those people that are responsible, we can’t take this no longer. This is 2014, this is not 1962, but we can go back to ‘65 if you want to, we can go back to ‘81, or we can go back to ‘91,” Mr Burgess said, citing the Belco Riot of 1965, the General Strike of 1981 and labour strife of 1991.’

So you can thow your hissy fit and claim racism all you like. But these events, statements (yesterday and on here and the radio on a a daily basis) actually occured and are not part of mine or anyone else’s imagination. And lets not forget the big guy with the PLP shirt having to be forced back by police after getting in the Premier’s face and waving his fingers in his face.

PS: The police are not the ones who warned Dr. Brown about threats as is the case this time around. …..Actually what was the eventual outcome of the so called ‘investigation?’

        • Dark Side of the Moon says:

You are mistaken about the crowds at the march when Ewart Brown and Col. Burch brought in the Uighurs, at least we let him stand there and listen to our concerns, unlike what you did to OUR PREMIER, and he was never threatened, cursed off, thrown rocks toward or anything like that, crowds were angry yes, he and his cabinet had pulled a fast one over on us, but no one ever got near him. I was there, were you? And yes, you are angry people. So now you know how people felt. It’s too bad some people have such disrespect for others, bad home schooling, I guess

      • Dumdedumdum says:

The thing is that this is all very dumb.

The PLP should never have started the car purchases and the OBA should have put an end to it, but now we have to explain about the cars and the number plates. It should never have come to this.

The OBA here demonstrate that they are afraid of threats. They need to show people that they actually have a bit of backbone, not hide behind civilian plates on cars they shouldn’t be driving anyway.

The OBA probably are not lying. I personally think Minister Pamplin-Gordon is one of the more honest and respectable politicians we have, but who cares? The minute they say they are not lying everybody will be certain that they are. They are politicians after all. The OBA should know this, but they don’t appear to.

There was a time when MPs were paid little or nothing, and surely didn’t get a car, because what they were doing was by choice a service for the good of the island. We could use that kind of attitude right now.

Ministers should voluntarily giving up their cars.

    • Rich says:

But the Minister for Works & Engineering is the one responsible for govt property, including GP cars. So actually, it makes complete and perfect sense that it would come from her. In fact, it makes far more sense that the Minister responsible for Govt Property would be the one responding to queries related to such property than Minister Dunkley who, while responsible for our national security apparatus , can’t possibly be expected to be responsible for all security period.

      • Disturbing says:

But the Minister for Works doesn’t get recommendations from the police – they go to the Minister of National Security.. That is the only people the police talk with.

        • watching says:

So why didn’t the Minister say anything in the House? Yes Minister Gordon Pamplin is responsible for the GP cars, but any threats would be known through Minister Dunkley’s Ministry, correct?

    • Johnboy says:

Don’t Cabinet Ministers drive Camrys?? Kinda hard to for them to blend in…….

    • Serious Though says:

Last time Dr. Brown said he needed security, you all know how this went with the same MP’s in OBA !

      • Suzie Quattro says:

But they’re not saying they need security, police outriders, and bodyguards.

        • Mazumbo says:

No they just want to be undercover to do the things they accused the P.L.P of doing , which is pretty clever I must say.

          • Sandy Bottom says:

Changing the number plates is “undercover”?

You need to get a life mate. You’re losing it.

    • Dark Side of the Moon says:

Don’t say nobody, cause I do.

  2. Onion says:

    OH FFS.

  3. Chartery says:

If there have been threats, I look forward to the prosecutions.

    • Suzie Quattro says:

Can you remind us of the names of people prosecuted for the bullet in the mail?

      • Don't Forget says:

And what exactly does that have to do with this?

        • Suzie Quattro says:

Can you really not see the parallel?

Perhaps it’s too subtle for you.

        • inna says:

same thing as the bullets did!

      • Rhonda Neil says:

        At least the bullet in
the mail came from the police.

        • Suzie Quattro says:

I thought Alvin Williams purportedly found it.

          • Dennis Williams says:

..why you got to throw in people’s names that have nothing to do with either issue???? Stop it now…..

            • Suzie Quattro says:

Just playing the same daft game as Rhonda Neil.

The bullet was intercepted by a postal worker. It did not ‘come from the police’.

              • Dennis Williams says:

..well respond to Rhonda….not by using my Dad…this may be fun and games for you…but not for me or any of his grandchildren….I’m not playing with you people and your stupid political nonsense

              • Rhonda Neil says:

the information to the public came via the police, so yes the postal worker could be lying..or the police could be lying….or you could be peeing on my leg and saying it is raining…

  4. Always Watching says:

I thinks it senseless because if someone wanted to hurt a Minister its not like this isn’t Bermuda where everyone knows who you are and where you live!!! You should leave the GP just in case there is some fool who is that upset and wants to harm something they will just mess with the car and forego the individual driving it. Just a thought.

  5. watching says:

This is ridiculous. We all know the GP plates were removed because the OBA government swore they would reduce the GP fleet of cars and they do not want everyone to see that they have not done so, so to give them private car numbers allows them to try and blend in more.

    • And so? says:

I have noted that on the weekends there are 4 or 5 GP cars parked in the grounds of the Cabinet Office. This never happened before. This is evidence that the OBA ministers are using the GP cars less. Look for yourself this weekend. The reason for changing plates is real and troubling. Not to be taken lightly. Right decision.

      • watching says:

So how does changing the licence plate reduce the threat to a particular Minister? This is Bermuda. We can all find out nearly anything we want as far as what car they drive, where they work, where they live. I hardly see where changing the licence plate reduces the threat. This is more OBA BS.

        • Pitbull says:

          EXACTLY!!! Just more money WASTED!!!!
Thats what they do best WASTE MONEY!!!

      • LAN says:

I totally agree!!! What have we come to in this country? I truly believe that there is a threat to some ministers and its DISGRACEFUL!!!!
And yes I also have seen the cars parked on the grounds of the cabinet office, it sure beats where I used to see them parked every weekend………..Port Royal Golf Course and Belmont!!! One in particular!

      • yes and if you want to save money stop having a special van with 2 people to clean the rack of GP cars – why?? Give them a voucher to go to the car wash like the rest of us!!

      • love Bermuda says:

Actually, there are at least a dozen cars parked in front of the Cabinet Office at 7:30am on weekdays.
So I don’t think they are being driven home.

  6. Godson says:

    Politricks at its best!!

  7. Don't Forget says:

So taking a plate off of a car removes the threat? That is BS. The OBA have been caught out driving GP cars, and just because they don’t want the public to know they put private plates on them.

Typical OBA antics – trying to fool the people!

  8. Good Stuff says:

Is there a publicly available list of all GP cars and their assignment? Just curious…

  9. Jus' Askin' says:

OBA continues to prove they are “NO Good” :-D

  10. Disturbing says:

If the minister is telling the truth, and I have no reason to thing she isn’t, this is a disturbing development.

However I don’t see how changing the plates helps anyone! If not I’m sure it helps. Also – one can’t help to understand why some would see this as a cynical ploy.

    1) OBA says they will not use GP Cars
    2) Some OBA ministers start using GP Cars
    3) More OBA ministers start using GP Cars – however the new ministers now have private plates on – and the only ministers have GP on their plates.

As I said, just sounds fishy.

    • CANT FOOL PPL ALL THE TIME says:

Who cares about the threats,My Life n livelyhood are threathen everyday with the bull**** laws n decisions they make or dont make

  11. Serious Though says:

these cars have the same distinct color, GP number or other number will not make a difference and further more if public see govt officials, or ministers using the same car with the same number plate ….dah!

    • Sandy Bottom says:

      The same “distinct colour”? Blue?

Any time you see a blue car you think it’s a government minister?

      • PBanks says:

To be fair, the particular type of blue, combined with the model of car, is fairly distinct on this island.

  12. Starting Point says:

This is outrageous! I also heard the OBA are planning to switch from number 2 pencils to the highly controversial number 3.5 pencil, where is the consultation? Where is the voice of the people as to if we want different pencils in the cabinet office….Is there no end to corruption of this government!!!

    • Disturbing says:

I’m guessing this was an attempt to be funny…. Didn’t work

      • Starting Point says:

No not being funny – I was mocking people who find this to be an issue. I will now have to devise a way to mock people who struggle to see sarcasm in online posts….oh wait I just did.

(note: to help @Disturbing, I am Mocking you.)

  13. ... says:

will it not be as easy to remember a civilian plate as it would be to remember a GP plate? I mean five numbers is not that hard to remember, you only have to see the minister in it once or twice and then you have that number memorized as well… unless you plan on switching drivers so the same driver isn’t driving the same car all the time

    • Redo says:

Clearly u over estimate the intelligence level on this island.

  14. Hmmmmm says:

We must be minutes away from the assignment of bodyguards. This should be a fun day of the OBA mouthpieces defending the indefensible. One of the cars in question is driven by the flashiest minister on their team. The car is oversized and between it and the driver’s bowtie, that private plate he’s got doesn’t hide him from anyone. Born at night, but not last night Pat. LMAO

    • Disturbing says:

Yeah – and isn’t it interesting that the same Minister you are talking about wasn’t driving a GP car at ALL until a couple of months ago. He went from driving his private car to a GP car – and then the GP car doesn’t have GP Plates and its “because of threats”

The threats may be real – but the excuse for changing the plates is BS!

    • Sandy Bottom says:

You have a problem with bodyguards, outriders, motorcades? Why?

  15. CANT FOOL PPL ALL THE TIME says:

I STILL WANNA KNOW WHY THE PREMIER HAD HIS PRIVATE BUSINESS MANAGER ON A PRIVATE PLANE CONDUCTING GOVERNMENT BUSINESS???????????????????????????????N WHY HAS THE MEDIA STOPPED TALKN ABOUT THIS ISSUE,BERMUDIANS HAVE BAD MEMORIES

    • Terry says:

Because someone forgot the ‘tail #’ of the plane.

    • Impressive says:

Because many OBA supporters thought is was no big deal, and they also felt it was no big deal that the Tourism Minister stated that not only was he on the private plane, he actually attended the meeting. Further to that, since the newspaper is pro-OBA or rather anti PLP, its a mute point at the moment.

  18. bornb says:

GP 2 has always had a CIVILIAN plate because d then premiers has 2 cars….. wonder if its d same…. dblue dey use is specifically for government vehicles…..NOW lets talk abt d amount of $$$ it cost for damages to have repairs at d Gov Quarry or at private garages….. D public dont kno abt alla dat inna???? Plp…. ubp … oba …. all d fudging same

    • Concern says:

Just a quick fyi, GP2 was always designated for the deputy premier. Our current and former premier have always had 2 government cars. GP1 (BMW) and private car which is a Toyota Camry.

Also if you note the premier’s chief of staff also drives around in a blue government Toyota with private plates.

  19. Lone Wolf says:

I have to agree. Changing the plates won’t make a difference. Everyone recognizes the GP cars with or without license plates. This reeks of ulterior motive, ie., to try and blend in while using the cars the OBA said they wouldn’t use.

If … threats were really made, anyone in Bermuda can find the person they have targeted and do whatever it is they’re going to do.

But I don’t really believe threats were made. At least not yet. I may not agree with the BIU and their ways but from what I have seen so far, they have been peaceful, even though emotions run high.

I know the article didn’t say anything about the BIU members but I can’t think of anyone else who would threaten anyone at this stage. Unless it was just some random out patient. Nah, I don’t buy this one.

  20. Dreamcatcher says:

BREAKING NEWS: local person reports a fleet of formerly blue GP cars leaving a paint shop in variety of colors after new paint jobs.

Sound Bite Cannonier defended the move as necessary because:

Safety was paramount for drivers of the cars (license plate adjustment did not resolve safety concern alone)
Payment to the shop was to boost the economy (thanks Bob here)
Blue is not a true OBA color

“It was the right move as these cars are now technically no longer the former GP cars pre-election. So no election promises have been broken”

No green cars or white cars were noted leaving the private premises.

    • Dinosaurmedia says:

Interesting that there are threats to ministers and this is how we go about protecting them. Changing a license plate on a car will not help them. But I guess they feel they needed to defend themselves so they came up with this.

Maybe they should stop doing stuff that will cause their lives to be threatened. Tell the truth, care about the lowest people in Bermuda first before business, meet with the workers, etc. Maybe if they started acting with integrity they wouldn’t get such threats. Just a thought.

    • Disturbing says:

      AMEN!!! Say it again.

What a LIAR, re-read your comment and tell me that it is that of someone who has voted TWICE before and both times voted for the PLP!!! What bullcrap!!! I don’t see you voting twice for the PLP and being so unhappy with them, BUT YOU DIDNT VOTE TO REMOVE THEM(remember you said you never voted OBA)Either your a BAD liar or very CONFUSED! You and I both know that YOU are not part of the 1% whites that vote PLP!

    • DUHH says:

By the way the premiers friend is no golf expert!! No more than MR KIM SWAN!!! Haha no way of justifying that, especially a so-called expert who cant beat me with an 8 handicap!LMAO Golf expert!!! You are soo right about one thing….TAKE THE BLINDERS OFF!!!

  27. Voter says:

This looks like a cover up before the breaking news of a ministers car in the wrong place at the wrong time doing something inappropriate . The OBAMA is so transparent. I will continue to wait, It won’t be long. They are putting things in place as we speak… By the way. When is the election? I’m ready for change.

    • Triangle Drifter says:

Ahhhh, do you mean like when so many GP cars could be seen parked overnight New Years Eve at the SP or when a certain party convention was going on?

      Watch out for that glass.

      • Dinosaurmedia says:

Back n forth we go…was right then so its right now?

  28. MMMMM says:

If you are going to drive around, spending our money doing it, you had better advertise it with your plates. We (the people) own that car and pay for it. You OBA clowns are just as bad as the PLP. The pool of “talent” for politicians in out country is average at best and well below par at worst…

  29. Y-Gurl says:

What a crock of Sh!# the ONLY reason for this is to disguise the number of government cars on the roads again, looks like another broken OBA promise coming up and yes lets talk about the cost of operating the oversized government fleet, the waste is paraded in front of us every day, the bus terminal has 2 dedicated GP cars to ferry them back and forth from the terminus to town and on most days to take a grandchild to school, surely these people could take the bus! also we have the government internal mail person driving around delivering mail to town from government buildings in town, the post office doesn’t even do that, they use bikes.

Seems to me the only government workers who need and use their cars are the care workers and nurses who apparently end up with the worst cars while the people who don’t need it get nice expensive jeeps, Toyota’s or really whatever they want depending on who they know at the quarry. Sorry OBA that’s is the lamest excuse or reason for anything you have tried so far, I wish you good luck at the next election.

    • Just Wondering says:

Just want some one to tell me are these GP cars that they see all the same type of car?

  30. watcher55 says:

Pamplin doesn’t want to be spotted at the grocery store and have it broadcast on Bernews!

    • Triangle Drifter says:

Sort of like somebody else who could be found every weekend, with GP car, at a certain plant nursery. Is that the type of missuse of taxpayers property you mean?

I don’t care who you are. Drive your own car for your personal business.

      • Just Wondering says:

Just want some one to tell me are these GP cars that they see all the same type of car?

Boy they got you again Bermuda.

No shame in the ubp/oba game.

Only an idiot thought they would not be using all the cars they had pretended to park.

    btw how many left parked??? 1- 2 – 0?

They fooled all you people from the begining

    • Just Wondering says:

Just want some one to tell me are these GP cars that they see all the same type of car?

      • Mike Hind says:

        “Another white”?

You do realize that there are white Bermudians that have a Bermudian accent, right? It’s not exclusive to one race.

This kind of unnecessary racial hostility is not helping anything. Please stop it.

  36. DUHH says:

Ahh, am I missing something here? Government are now changing the license plate numbers of the GP vehicles to avoid identifying government vehicles…..so are they also giving MPs and other government officials PLASTIC SURGERY also??? LMAO Changing the license plate doesn’t change the IDENTITY of the person driving the vehicle.
We all know and recognize Government officials,we see most on a daily basis in transit and automatically know its a government vehicle because most of us know what their PERSONAL vehicles look like. This is tiny Bermuda, people! Who came up with this genius plan??

  37. thief says:

    bad PR.

  38. Know it all says:

They learned this tactic from the russians….about as covert as a russion soldier in ukraine right about now… There aren’t that many dark blue corrolla’s and camery’s to blend in with.

  39. In the nick of time... says:

Introducing to you…the NON Bermuda Aliance…

  40. jonny says:

What is also funny is how quickly they can act when a problem relates to them, but when it problems for the people, it takes months to find a plan.

  41. Hmmmmm says:

Ok. Let’s change the conversation slightly. This is all very entertaining, but these are not real issues. In 14 months, the OBA is in the same governing paralysis that took the PLP 14 years. Why? Because the toxic, petty issues that they managed to get so much play from in Opposition have been ingrained into our minds so that we now think they actually matter. They don’t and those of us who said it then and are honest happily say so now.

So this is very much chickens coming home to roost. If the OBA/UBP hadn’t made so much of travel they wouldn’t now be spending precious time defending their own travel and saying ridiculous things like “well we spent less than you did”. If the OBA/UBP hadn’t made such a big deal of GP cars and vowed not to use them, this wouldn’t even be news. (Don’t forget, the real story here is what are they doing driving them in the first place after promsing never to do so)And lastly, if the OBA hadn’t run on a platform of a referendum for gaming, no-one would even be talking about the issue but just waiting to cast their vote.

So, with all that said, will the Premier, his Ministers and all the OBA supporters stand up and say:

    1. We were wrong on GP cars and their use and now that we’re doing the job we understand why they’re necessary.

    2. We were wrong on travel and now that we’re doing the job we understand that we need to get on planes sometimes.

    3. We were wrong on the London and Washington DC Offices and now that we’re doing the job we understand their value and they weren’t “vanity projects” or “ego trips”.

    4. We were wrong on India, China and Islamic financing because now that we’re doing the job we realise that they’re the only people who have any money now.

    5. We were wrong to make scurrilous accusations and to allow our supporters to repeat them about corruption, friends & family, cedar beams, the Playboy Mansion and all sorts of other stuff when we didn’t have an proof; and now that we’re in the job and it’s been done to us we get it now.

If we can get all of that aside then maybe we can focus on some real issues and whatever government follows this one will never have to worry about such petty BS ever again, we’ll have gotten it all out of our system.

    • Lone Wolf says:

      Well said …

    • Just Wondering says:

Just want some one to tell me are these GP cars that they see all the same type of car?

  42. Rhonda Neil says:

they park these cars right on the ground of cabinet., hint copy the plate number.. if anyone was out to harm an MP or the car they were driving…besides most, know where MPs live or work… or can easily find out if we made it our business… …this is so silly….

    • Just Wondering says:

Just want some one to tell me are these GP cars that they see all the same type of car?

  43. Infidelguy says:

What kind of a dumb solution is this? Who did the Minister consult on this one? Bozo the Clown?

Hey, maybe they should put on invisibility cloaks so that they can’t be seen in public.

    :)
    LOL!!!

  44. Chris Famous says:

The whole of the OBA said they would not be driving these cars to begin with so changing licence plates are irrelevant if you are not driving them

it would actually be safer to drive their own cars that no one knows

    Utter BS

If somebody wants to get at me my license plate changing does not alter that.

WTH next they will be changing houses?

    • LiarLiar says:

Provide the evidence that they stated they wouldn’t ever drive a GP car. You can’t and you know it.

They stated that the Government fleet had grew substantially over the past decade and they would cut back on the number of cars.

I remember because you wrote one your little silly articles claiming that they could possibly get rid of fire trucks, police cars and ambulances. And in the paper that regularly prints your ‘articles’ ran a story a few months back confirming that GP cars have been reduced by a third.

Why must you ALWAYS lie or tell half truths when posting or ‘writing’ your articles (more of copy and paste really)? And why can’t you ever present a single soluttion to BDA’s problems?

  45. Caffee says:

Wasn’t the OBA the ones that thought we did not need all of these security measures. I remember quite well the things they said about Ewart Brown & the security services he needed for threats made. OBA thought it was a waste of money. OBA shouldn’t have been throwing stones whilst living in a glass house.

    • LiarLiar says:

      What glass house?

Are they now requesting taxpayer funded bodyguards or other forms of security for the Premier and any MPs?

Do you guys actually put any rational thought into your ctiticisms before posting?

    • Jack Daniels says:

The OBA was not around when Ewart Brown was in power.

      • DUHH says:

Where have you been living!!! The OBA is made up of the same individuals that were the core of the old UBP!

  46. DUHH says:

This OBA government will have 1 term in power and they too will have to disband and form another party because the people are fed up!I will take the lesser of the two evils!! Its time for change! This government promised jobs and at a fast rate by the numbers they were spewing out pre-election. Where are the jobs? All I see are jobs…LOST!! Sorry you cant blame the PLP for something YOU promised the people…..The ONLY REASON YOU WERE VOTED IN!!!

  47. Coffee says:

The Original Bullship Artist party trying to cover their tracks as usual . To be expected from the same people who told a bold face lie to the people of Bermuda , conjured up on the plane ride back from London concerning the DPP appointment . Respect for US , hell NO , they have no respect for the Governor , or the people who voted for them .

    • Mike Hind says:

Did you complain and denounce when the former Premier of Bermuda lied to the House and to the people of Bermuda? That was pretty bold-faced.

Just asking, ‘cuz I wouldn’t want to falsely accuse you of hypocrisy and “It’s ok when we do it”…

You seem to be really good at ranting at injustice. Just curious as to whether it has any integrity.

      • Dr. the Hon. Ewart F. Brown says:

        Hello Mike Hind:
As one of many “former Premiers” I would like to know which one “lied to the House and the people of Bermuda”?

        • Family Man says:

Your failing memory may be a sign of alzheimers. You should have a reputable doc check that out.

        • Mike Hind says:

The one that said the Uighurs had been vetted by the police, only to have this shown to be false.

          • Dr. the Hon. Ewart F. Brown says:

@ Mike Hind: My minister informed me that the men had been vetted by the Police. I repeated what he had told me. The Police later said they had BEGUN vetting them but had not completed the process. I then notified the House of that fact. And that sir is the truth.

@Family Man: When you develop the inner strength to use your real name, I will consider engaging with you. Until then, know that a very reputable doctor has said that my mental examination was quite normal and my ability to detect a low IQ is excellent!

            • Mike Hind says:

              Uh huh.

              Right.

              • Question says:

So you are given an answer and because it is not to your liking, it is incorrect?! Is that how it goes, Mike?

I am not attacking you – - I just find it confusing as you asked the question – - he engaged you and provided an answer – - so why the “uh huh – right” comment?

                Q

                • Mike Hind says:

I just don’t believe it. Hence my answer.
Why is that so difficult to understand?

And why aren’t you going after those folks who are screaming that the Minister is a liar? She provided almost the exact same answer.

                  I wonder why that is.

                  • Dr. the Hon. Ewart F. Brown says:

@Mike Hind: Having read some of your posts I didn’t expect you to believe me. That sad part is that I could, if I had the time, produce a document signed by “the right kind of person” and you would be more likely to believe it! So unfortunate for you and Bermuda.

                    • Mike Hind says:

                      “The right kind of person”?
There’s no need for that, Dr. Brown.
This sort of nastiness is EXACTLY why people don’t trust you and don’t believe you.

  48. Time Shall Tell says:

So you really want us to believe that someone isn’t going to threaten someone just because a license plate doesn’t include GP? Don’t these cars have windows where you can actually see the driver?…..

So what’s next? Masks so they can walk in public without fear of being recognized?? If the government has to fear the people they where elected to govern them they must not be doing something right…

    • Pitbull says:

WHATS NEXT???? They will ALL have dark tinted windows.
Thats next on the agenda of wasting money.
they don’t sleep they go to bed eyes wide open thinking how they will spend money tomorrow LOL!!! really SAD!!!

  49. Terry says:

Mr. Famous. You been hanging out with Rhonda Neil aka……
Even on facebook she states that GP 13 was driven by Nalton Brangman and it is no 15429.

    Birds and feathers.
    Trumped.

  50. No Power says:

betterb to change a plate than have BODY GUARDS.

  51. Come On Man says:

What a load of rubbish. Your taking the GP off the licence plates so they want be quickly identified when the vehicles are being used for other things that is not Government business.

  52. bornb says:

Where is the credibility of these so called threats or was it a dinner conversation that they better be careful n we all know how stories go when they go from one person to the next…. all out of whack by time you get to the end….. how was these threats confirmed?

  53. Triangle Drifter says:

What beats me is why did the Minister even announce this? Dumb, just plain dumb. Should have quietly changed the tags & been done with it. Sooner or later it would be noticed but really & truly this is a non issue. Surely there must issues of far greater importance to take care of.

    • Dark Side of the Moon says:

Oh heck no, then you would hear Burt and Bean complaining that the OBA have not been transparent enough, you know, like the PLP were!!!!LOFL

  54. WTF says:

I have a question for all you plp/biu idiots..that rant on this chat about the OBA.. how many of you voted for the OBA in the last election?… NONE!!! So nothings gonna change… you will still vote for your incompetant plp/biu..nothing gained, nothing lost.

    • Triangle Drifter says:

Not so fast. The OBA got in, not so much because they got new voters but more because of former PLP voters who opened their eyes & saw what the PLP was doing to them but could not bring themselves to vote OBA.

Silly in a way, but that is what they did & enough of them did it. In a true mature voting enviroment the OBA should have been in by a landslide purely because of the dismal performance of the PLP.

Then there are the ones who will vote PLP no matter how bad for Bermuda they are. They are programed. Told to do what they do & they obediently do it. Talk about voting yourself onto the plantation!

  55. No laughing matter says:

These threats are serious allegations and every effort must be made to keep government officials safe. Look what happened last year on the island of Curacao.
    http://www.bbc.com/news/world-latin-america-22424009
You can imagine the shock of that nation. No one thought something like this could ever happen!…so its better to be safe than sorry!

  56. FOOLISHNESS says:

Are they going to change their identity? ijs
