Bermuda Ranked #2 In World: Hour Of Code
Bermuda has been ranked second, on a per capita basis, among more than 150 countries for participation in The Hour of Code, a global initiative that aims to encourage people, both children and adults, to apply themselves for a short time to computer programming.
According to the website, the ranking is “based on the number of events compared to the population of a country.” Bermuda, ranked with a population of 64,237, took part in seven events.

The event’s official website says, “The Hour of Code is a global movement reaching tens of millions of students in 180+ countries. Anyone, anywhere can organize an Hour of Code event. One-hour tutorials are available in over 30 languages. No experience needed. Ages 4 to 104.
“Every student should have the opportunity to learn computer science. It helps nurture problem-solving skills, logic and creativity. By starting early, students will have a foundation for success in any 21st-century career path.”

This is the second year running that Sandys Middle School has done it. For some reason it won’t show on the map.
Saltus Grammar are really excited about our school hour of code tomorrow. When every student in the upper school will get the opportunity to code simultaneously. Let’s get Bermuda on the computer science map.

Your right, I would suggest that while we still have conscripted individual, the regiment should organize some Hour of Code events up at camp. There are many useful skills that can be learned while in the service and this could be another skill gained.
BHS were at it, too. Well done, everyone, whatever your school!
the Chatmore Prep boys had their hour of code this week! So glad our boys were able to take part. Definitely a good opportunity for our young learners and I’m sure I will open up more possibilities!
If we all club together and code for a few hours be may get top place! Keep it going kids!!!

Kathy, you may want to increase the size of the map of Bermuda and you will notice a number of educational institutions in Bermuda have signed up for the hour of code, both public, private and home schools.
