5K “Glow Fun Walk And Run” Set For March 28
On Saturday, March 28, 2015, Waterfront Properties will host the seventh annual celebration of Earth Hour in Bermuda. The feature activity during this year’s campaign will be a 5K Glow Fun Walk and Run through the City of Hamilton during the “lights out” period from 8.30pm to 9.30pm.
A spokesperson said, “The 5K Glow Fun is a family event designed for people of all ages and athletic abilities. Runners, walkers and supporters of the Earth Hour campaign are welcome to join in for an evening filled with glow paint, black lights, DJ’s and special effects.
“The positive energy, lively music and excitement we create will all serve to lighten up the darkened streets of Hamilton during Bermuda’s acknowledgement of a globally recognized cause.
“Proceeds from the 5K Glow Fun Walk and Run will support the community programs and services provided by local charity Greenrock, therefore we are inviting the entire community to get involved.
“Registration and donations are being facilitated by our race partners Bermuda Timing Systems on their website. The cost for adults is $25, children under 17 are $15, and there is also a special family rate of $60 for two adults and two children.
“As a community, this is an opportunity for us to demonstrate that living more sustainably is a priority for our country and something that we all need to actively address. With that in mind we urge schools, churches, clubs, local businesses and non-profit organizations to enter glow teams and encourage their staff, students, members or volunteers to get involved.”
RockFire Bermuda at 2014′s Earth Hour celebration:
“There will be prizes and recognition given to the largest glow teams registered, the craziest glow costumes on the night, as well as the individuals and teams who raise the most funds.
“The race route will take participants from the Waterfront Properties on Pitts Bay Road, as far as King Street and back using parts of Woodbourne Avenue, Richmond Road, Serpentine Road, Dundonald Street, Cedar Avenue, Victoria Street, Reid Street, Court Street and Front Street.
“Members of the race committee are in the process of recruiting businesses along the route, to help light up the path with out of the box artistic decorations, glowing elements and various special effects.
Eugene Dean, Greenrock founding member and Earth Hour Chairman, said, “Our core focus this year is to involve the entire community.
“Sustainability is a global issue that we can address locally by involving the entire country one person or business at a time.
“Ultimately the purpose of the Earth Hour Campaign is to make a statement, raise awareness and encourage our leaders, business owners and the general public to commit to actions that help us create a more sustainable future.
“The 5K Glow Fun Walk and Run is an opportunity for us all to take action, make a statement and have a great time while showing our support.”
