Court: Cruise Ship Passengers Fined $300

September 5, 2017

Appearing in Magistrates Court today [Sept 5], two American visitors were fined $300 after being charged in connection with an altercation with two local teenagers who attempted to steal a chain from them.

23-year-old Aaron Alexandre and 26-year-old Kimberly Alexandre, siblings from Connecticut, pleaded guilty to taking part in a fight and assaulting Antoine Seaman and Micah Hughes on September 1st in Dockyard.

The court heard that around 3.00am the pair and their nephew were leaving Snorkel Park after enjoying a night out, and decided to walk around before returning to the cruise ship.

They heard a motorcycle behind them, and the pillion passenger grabbed the man’s gold chain. He chased after the bike and grabbed the passenger, and an altercation ensued.

The two local males, both aged 19, were taken to hospital for treatment, while the visitors were taken to the police station for questioning.

The Court heard that the two locals sustained injuries including lacerations, bruises, shoulder injury, a fractured wrist and more.

After hearing submissions from the visitors’ lawyer, Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo agreed that they were within their rights to defend their property, so discharged the affray charge, however stated that because they ‘went beyond’ what was required, a conditional discharge would not be appropriate for the assault charge, and fined them $300.
