Age Concern Offering Health Checks On Nov 29

November 27, 2017

Age Concern is holding its third and final health check for the year at the St. James Church in Somerset on Wednesday, November 29th from 10:00 am – 2:00pm, and adults aged 50 and above are urged to attend and take advantage of the offering of free vital checks, eye and dental screenings.

Anita Furbert RN, Education Coordinator for Age Concern stated, “The Health Checks events have been extremely successful over the year. To date, we have provided over 200 checks and collected some very useful data that will help improve the effectiveness of these types of events.

“The event at St. James Church is extremely timely, because it is happening before the Christmas holidays which will allow participants to gauge their health standing before they enter the season and hopefully adjust their health behaviors so that they manage their health well over the season.

“In the first quarter of 2018, we plan to have another series of Health Checks. Participants can use that occasion to revisit their vitals and determine whether they are still on track. The Age Concern, Health Checks, by no means replaces the care that should be undertaken through a physician or family doctor. However, the information recorded and provided to participants using our Health Check Passport can be a great tool of keeping physicians informed.”

If you are not a member of Age Concern, you can join while you register. All persons 80 years and older receive a free membership. Health Check appointments are scheduled within three appointment periods.

There will a draw of $100 grocery voucher for each of the three appointment periods. A light lunch will also be provided. Interested persons, age 50 and older are asked to contact Age Concern on 238-7525 or to email clientservices@ageconcern.bm to register or to ask for more information.
