“BIOS’s Ocean Academy program is instrumental in enhancing the availability of science, technology, engineering and math education in Bermuda and providing a tangible connection between the classroom and the ocean surrounding Bermuda,” Sol said.

“Through progressive levels of learning and hands-on activities, the students who participate in the programs gain exposure to science that is unparalleled on the island.

“Highlighting the collaborative efforts that scientific research requires and providing mentorship for future science related careers, Ocean Academy equips students with the knowledge and confidence to succeed, not only in science, but in their academic studies as well.”

Mr. Turner commented, “Sol Bermuda is proud to have supported this important educational program for the third year running, exposing local and overseas students to the critical science, technology, engineering and math [STEM] topics vital to understanding Bermuda’s unique marine environment while also assisting teachers to create an enthusiasm and appreciation for marine science which will benefit all of us.”

“At BIOS, we believe that education is a crucial part of ocean science research, helping to translate the work of our faculty into meaningful experiences for Bermuda’s students,” said Kaitlin Noyes, Director of Ocean Academy.

“The suite of progressive educational opportunities offered within Ocean Academy is made possible by private support and we are grateful for Sol Bermuda’s contribution. Funding such as this gives students the chance to experience ocean science first-hand, while also gaining valuable skills and building their confidence.”

BIOS is an independent US non-profit scientific research and educational organization based in Bermuda. For over 100 years BIOS-based researchers and visiting scientists have worked to explore the ocean and address important local and global environmental issues.
