Coach Kyle Lightbourne is pleased with the early training sessions as the team prepares to make its Gold Cup debut against Haiti on June 16 in Costa Rica.

“They’ve gone well, and the players have put in a lot of work,” Lightbourne told Bernews.

He added the intensity of the training sessions has been high as players have a laser-like focus on being the best they can be. Lightbourne said that the practices this week have allowed them to tighten up their defensive prowess.

“We’re looking for more communication as they leave the zones they’re in. That’s probably the biggest coaching point.”

The team has been doing one-a-day training sessions at the National Sports Centre as they prepare for Guyana on Thursday night.

Guyana, like Bermuda, is making its Gold Cup debut.

“We’ll probably be in the day after the match, then have Saturday off before we leave [for Costa Rica].”

Bermuda will also play Costa Rica in Dallas, Texas on June 20, and Nicaragua in Harrison, New Jersey on June 24. If they finish in the top two in the group, their quarterfinals will be held in Houston, Texas.
