May 24th Fitted Dinghy Races Cancelled

May 23, 2010

fitted dinghySomers Cooper, the Bermuda Sailing Association President, has confirmed that the Fitted Dinghy races scheduled for tomorrow in St. George’s Harbour have been cancelled.

Mr Cooper said that the cancellation was due to the weather forecast. The forecast tomorrow predicts extremely high winds, and a crew member explained to us that dinghys are not the greatest boats in high winds, hence forcing the cancellation.

A traditional part of the island’s May 24 celebrations, the Bermuda Day race is the traditional opening day of the Fitted Dinghy season.

Sailors that were expected to compete included 4-time Olympian Peter Bromby,  Somers Kempe, Martin Siese, Roger Mello, William Thompson, Douglas DeCouto, Rockal Evans, Peter Miller, Adam Barboza, Tim Steinhoff, James Mulderig, Donald Canton, Jerry Burnham, Lisa Spurling, Nick Finnigan, John Nicholls, Joe DeSilva, Lance Fraser, Jeremy Brosier, Tania Theriault, Nick Smale, Giles Spurling, Ray DeSilva, Michael Oatley and Tim Lynch, as well as young up and comers Dimitri Stevens, Mackenzie Cooper, Calin Hillier and Owen Siese.

Well. All I can say is blame it on the Dutch. Bermudian born of Dutch parents. This is for the birds. Rig design and enclosed waters only define that the yat clubs were just tinkering. As they do today.

Give me a good gaim of yooker, a few becks, and I’ll make it to the finish line before these doodz ever get away from the barge.

Imagine the Newport Bermuda yat race all hangin horn too ah barge……………………

Ah Hah…..There you go. Build a floating barge…as they say..you billed it they vill cum………………….

    A great day too all
