‘The Inbetweeners’ Movie Screening

December 17, 2011

The alternatively awkward and comic growing pains of British adolescents are coming to the screen at the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute [BUEI] theatre next month when the Caledonian Society of Bermuda screens “The Inbetweeners: The Movie.”

Adapted from the hit TV series of the same name, the film was one of the biggest box office hits in the UK this summer.

The film follows the misadventures of a group of suburban teenage friends on holiday in Crete after the end of their final year at school together and serves as a finale to the 2008-2010 TV series.

Trailer For “The Inbetweeners: The Movie

“The Inbetweeners” was popular with audiences and critics alike, with Will Dean of “The Guardian” newspaper saying the comedy “captures the pathetic sixth-form male experience quite splendidly.”

The movie screens at the BUEI Tradewinds Auditorium on Sunday, January 8 at 7 pm. Tickets cost $15 and will be available at premiertickets.bm

Is this really a BUEI movie? Having watched the Inbetweeners movie this weekend (btw never watched the TV series) I did actually enjoy it. I didn’t love it though. It’s basically the British version of American Pie regarding male adolescence (English lads on a party vacation looking for, well, what young boys look for when just out of school with some never having had encountered a girl before before. Therefore, expect nudity (mostly male actually), vomit, vulgar sexual references, crass foul language, you know, the usual stuff.. but to reiterate, why BUEI? For some reason i always expect movies at the BUEI to be, well, marine related. Also this weekend I watched ‘Dolphin Tale’. An inspired true story of a boy’s friendship with a dolphin that lost it’s tail and a belief that a prosthetic tail will enable the dolphin to swim normally. Isn’t that more BUEI like?
Ah but maybe it’s the choice of the Caledonian Society because yes the InBetweeners Movie is British. However, shouldn’t the focus of the Caledonian Society In Bermuda be on, well, Scottish ‘stuff’? Perhaps the 2011 movie ‘Perfect Sense’ with Ewan McGregor that is set in Glasgow, Strathclyde would have been more fitting. Anyways, loved ‘Midnight In Paris’ (another movie I watchied this wet and windy weekend). Enjoy.

    • Gregory’s Girl, to clarify, this film is unrelated to BUEI as we are just hiring their facilities to screen it.

With regards to the film choice, normally we would show Scottish movies (the last film screening we hosted was Whisky Galore!) but we decided to make an exception for The Inbetweeners Movie since there was a high demand for it that the local cinemas did not meet. Over a third of tickets have already been sold after the first day of sale and, as with all of our events, all funds raised will go towards our charitable donations and education grants to support Bermudian students. Hope this answers your questions!

Dolphin Tale???? Really????? It’s no wonder you didn’t really enjoy this movie, i’m a regular attender at the Cally events and trust me they couldn’t be more Scottish, the last movie showing was great especially the whisky tasting and this years ball was amazing with a caller for the dancers. But good on them for letting us see this movie in a cinema rather than sitting at home and watching it. How about attack the block next, another recent British smash that didn’t make it to the cinemas here, or if you’re going back to the Scottish theme, surely Braveheart or Trainspotting is on the cards. But judging from Gregory’s taste in movies he probably won’t have a lot of positive things to say about those 2 classics either!!!
