Sponsors Needed If Career Fair Is To Take Place

September 3, 2012

There is a chance that the 2012 Career Fair may not take place this year unless additional financial support can be found.

Chairman Ralph Richardson said, “The organising committee for the 2012 Career fair, have been working over the summer to organise this fall event, which now is in its 8th year.

“The Fair is planned to take place at the Bermuda College with plans to showcase over 75 booths that will present business, hospitality and technical training career options for middle school and high school students to consider. 2,500 students normally attend from both public and private schools over the two day event.

“However we are far short of the financial support necessary to put on the event this year and are looking for a Title Sponsor who may join other sponsors to make the Career Fair a reality in 2012.

“There is a chance that the event may not take place this year unless we are able to gain additional financial support.”

Careers Fair Chairman, Ralph Richardson’s full statement follows below:

The organising committee for the 2012 Career fair, have been working over the summer to organise this fall event, which now is in its 8th year. October 18th and 19th have been set with the Bermuda College leadership who have confirmed their participation and use of their gym and campus grounds.

This event has become a key annual event with the local schools, as well as with our supporting vendors and sponsors.

Educators have expressed to us that students who can connect learning to the workplace perform much better than those who do not. To this end lies the full commitment of the Career Fair organising Committee.

The committee has received very positive feedback from those who have participated over the past years. These include students, teachers as well as those firms supporting with booths and others who have been sponsors.

Once again, the Fair is planned to take place at the Bermuda College Gym and playing field with plans to showcase over 75 booths that will present business, hospitality and technical training career options for middle school and high school students to consider. 2,500 students normally attend from both public and private schools over the two day event.

So far this year we have had received commitments from several firms planning to participate already, and plan a larger push for participants in early September.

The event has been successful largely due to support from our sponsors, both public and private, as well as the support and participation by the Ministry of Education and the many of the private schools.

We are certainly grateful for the support to date from BELCO, the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Trade and Industry and other companies that have already committed to the 2012 event.

However we are far short of the financial support necessary to put on the event this year and are looking for a Title Sponsor who may join other sponsors to make the Career Fair a reality in 2012.

However there is a chance that the event may not take place this year unless we are able to gain additional financial support. The event is now open for a Title Sponsor to take a lead in this initiative.

The executive committee: Ralph Richardson, Chris Williams, Rhona Emmerson and Starla Williams report that unless they can secure additional sponsors, they will have no alternative but to postpone or cancel the event and re-group possibly early in 2013.

If you or your firm has an interest in ensuring that the Career Fair takes place again this year, please call 292-0451 ext 107 or email careerfair@selectsitesgroup.com if you would like to receive a sponsors package, or would like to be part of the 2012 Careers Fair.

It would be useful if Mr. Richardson stated exactly how much they were looking for so potential sponsors have an idea of the cost to organise such an event.

If the location and participants are voluntary, is it just advertising support?
