Photos: CBA Principal’s Birthday Fundraiser
Over $2,000 was raised at birthday fundraiser recently organized by the Literacy Committee to celebrate Principal Kalmar Richards’ Birthday and to acknowledge her dedication to students at CedarBridge Academy.
In addition a book fund-raiser for the CedarBridge Library was held, where books were donated to the library in honor of Mrs. Richards’ birthday. This made Wednesday, January 30th, an eventful day at CedarBridge Academy.
The event began with a welcome by Marcus H. Bean, a National Honors Society student, who thanked Mrs. Richards for her dedication to students at Cedarbridge Academy. This was followed by a surprise visit of the Yale Whiffenpoofs who entertained guests and sang Happy Birthday wishes to Mrs. Richards.
Following the presentation, guests browsed the book selections from Bermuda Book Store and Brown & Company; and the Cedarbridge Library Wish List. Donations of non-fiction books were raised in aid of the aging non-fiction collection of books in the library.
The books were pre-selected to meet the needs of the curriculum and student interests. Those who did not wish to purchase a book for the library gave monetary donations. A fund-raiser label will be placed in each book to acknowledge each donation that was contributed during the event.
Guests were treated to refreshments prepared by staff members and students from the Family Studies class. The Flying Chef-caterers of the school cafeteria donated a cupcake to each student in celebration of Principal Richards’ Birthday.
There was birthday cake which was served the following day to all staff members. On display were student art work and photographic assignments. Guests were also serenaded by the CedarBridge Academy’s Violin quartet.
In attendance were Education Minister Nalton Brangman, Chief Education Officer Warren Jones, Commissioner Wendy McDonnell, Education Officers, teachers, parents, friends and students.
The event raised over $2051.44 and more than 110 books will be added to the non-fiction collection as donations continue to be raised. Anyone wishing to contribute from the wish list can contact the Head Librarian Mrs. Candace Seymour.
Cedarbridge Academy said they would like thank all persons who supported the Birthday Fund-Raiser event.

anyone can give me money on my birthday too!
Wow, she is still the principal up there. She needs more good media coverage for all the positive inituatives she has done for that school because she is obviously doing something right up there to be principal for so long.
Unity Understanding Success…continue with the good work Mrs. Richards and continue to walk by faith and not by sight…proud graduate of the class of 06
