Tyrone Smith Leaps 8.09m, Wins Meet In Paris
Bermuda’s Tyrone Smith has picked up his first international win of the year, claiming victory at the 2013 Meeting National de Bonneuil sur Marne held in Paris, France on Friday [June 7].
The two-time Olympian and Bermuda National Record holder leaped 8.09m [26.5ft] – marking his best jump since 2011.
The 28-year-old athlete competes regularly on the international circuit where he consistently is a top finisher.
Last month he placed 3rd in the Seiko Golden Grand Prix in Japan, and his next competition will be on Monday in the Czech Republic where he will compete in the 2013 Memorial Josefa Odlozila.
The U.S-based athlete made it through to the finals in the 2012 Olympics, becoming the first Bermudian track and field athlete to reach an Olympic final since the 1990s when Brian Wellman was competing. Smith has said he hopes to build off of that Olympic experience and make it to another final.
