Corona Football League Set To Kick Off
The 2014/15 season of the Corona League is getting set to launch, bringing together 10 teams and kicking off with a charity match on September 26.
Corona League President Mike McGrath said, “Another exciting season awaits us and all the teams are anxious to start a new campaign with dreams of winning the title and lifting the cup, but we will have to wait six months to find out whose come true.
“This season we welcome Butterfield and Vallis, who are introducing B&V United Football Club into the league. We all wish them luck on their rookie season and know they have some lofty ambitions
“The addition of B&V United FC keeps the league at 10 teams, including BAA Wanderers FC, B&V United FC, Flanagan’s Onions FC, Lobster Pot FC, Lock & Key FC, North Village Community Club, Robin Hood FC, Tuff Dogs Sports Club, Vasco Da Gama, and West End United.

Mr. McGrath continued, “This exciting new season will start with the Coronita charity shield this Friday [Sept 26], with Corona Extra’s little brother Coronita allowing us to continue to give back to the community with entertaining football for the family to watch, as well as funds going to charity.
“This year’s game sees Corona League winners Tuff Dogs take on Challenge cup winners NVCC at 7.00pm at BAA’s Goose Goslings field.
“The Coronita Charity Shield will warm us all up nicely for the much anticipated start of the league, which kicks off on October 3 with the teams wanting to see if all their pre-season efforts have been enough.
“With a break for Christmas and Challenge Cup rounds filtered into the schedule, the league continues until March 14 when we find out who will be the sixth winner engraved on to the Corona League Trophy. We all know there will be plenty of drama and excitement on the journey to discover that name.
“The game times will remain the same as last season, with Friday games kicking off at 6.30pm and 8.30pm and Saturday games at 2.00pm, 4.00pm, and 6.00pm.
“We have retained the transfer window for the Corona League which allows players that have already played in the league to move from any top half table team to any lower half table team, refreshing the league midway through the season and strengthening the lower sides.
“The window will be open for the first two weeks in January and piques the interest for the start of 2015.
“We would like to thank the board members for all the hard work they do and time they donate to make the league work, as well as a big thank you to all of our sponsors who support us and have shown us such faith in the league over the last five years.
“Working together, we have managed to create such an enjoyable league for the players and community. I would especially like to thank Corona, Goslings, and Charles Gosling.”
