Bermuda Festival Set To Include La Traviata

February 2, 2015

The Bermuda Festival is offering three performances of La Traviata, performed by Opera A La Carte, a group well-known to local audiences for skillfully capturing the essence of works in their simple staging.

The performances will take place on February 4, February 5, and February 7, 2015, at 8.00pm at the Earl Cameron Theatre at City Hall.

A spokesperson said, “An operatic version of Giuseppe Verdi’s La Dame aux caméllias, La Triviata, which translates to ‘The Woman Who Strayed,’ promises to bring a hint of social scandal to this year’s festival. Set in 1930s Paris, this three act Opera tells the tale of the courtesan Violetta and her live–in lover Alfredo.

“With elements of family status, tarnished reputations, scandal and celebrity La Traviata will capture the audience’s attention and transport them to the cocktail filled world of Violetta and Alfredo’s love.”

“Verdi’s beautiful opera, performed in Italian, is a musical treat. The incredibly talented singers of Opera A La Carte will wow the audience with their performances of Brindisi, a famous drinking song and Addio, del Passato, a poignant reflection of happy dreams of days gone by.”

Karen Pollard, the Artistic Director for the Festival, said, “It is not often that local audiences are able to enjoy live opera in Bermuda. La Traviata is Verdi’s best-loved opera in which the central character Violetta sings some of the most glorious, poignant and demanding arias in the repertoire.”

La Traviata will be performed on February 4, February 5, and February 7, 2015, at 8.00pm at the Earl Cameron Theatre at City Hall. The Opera will be performed in Italian, with a full English synopsis available in the house programme, available online, or on the Bermuda Festival app.
