Arts Centre To Open “Fantastic Four” On Oct 25

October 22, 2015

The Bermuda Arts Centre is getting set to open an exhibit called “Fantastic Four,” showcasing the work of artists Nahed Eid, Christopher Grimes, Christopher Marson, and Chesley Trott.

The show opens on October 25 and will remain open until November 20.

A spokesperson said, “Nahed Eid is new to our team. You can often find her digging in dumpsters, scrounging through industrial trash or scouring house sales. In designing jewelry, her unique pieces are made either in sterling silver, pewter, brass, or copper. Semi-precious stones are used to capture the light.”

“Her ability to take every day objects and turn them into beautiful works of art are inspiring. All of her standing pieces are what Nahed likes to call “Fun-ctional Art”. Each piece is a workable piece of art; Nahed’s Motto is retrieve, recycle and re-use.

“Christopher Grimes commenced painting in 1974 due to the influence of a friend who painted. Without formal training, through practice, observation and perseverance, he acquired his unique style of painting and rendition.

“Christopher’s primary interests are in painting historical scenes, accurately recording the old days, prior to the introduction of color photography. Views of Old Bermuda continue to be his preferred subjects, and he has an extensive collection of old black & white photographs of those early days as well as many Bermuda books.”

“He studies relevant Bermuda history prior to starting a painting, in an effort to accurately portray life as it was. Old Bermuda photographs and Ordnance Survey maps are used for reference, as well as talking with the island’s senior’s to determine details of a particular subject.

“Many scenes he paints are not available in photographic form, so much research is required to accurately portray the scene.”

“Christopher Marson is one of Bermuda’s most accomplished watercolour painters. He received his degree in Fine Arts in Canada in 1971, and was employed as a graphic designer in Canada and Bermuda.

“He returned to painting after coming home to Bermuda and won numerous awards for his work which was well received in group and solo shows. Christopher has worked in watercolor for the last 30 years. He paints quickly and directly enjoying the transparency, the immediacy, and the unpredictability of the watercolor medium.

“He is an enthusiastic member and sometime leader of the Bermuda Plein Air painting group and teaches workshops in watercolor and acrylic on an occasional basis. He has also been painting with oils for the last few years and has recently returned to acrylics which he started working with 30 years ago. His latest passion is Gouache and Casein.”

“The work found in the studio of resident artist Chesley Trott captures more than just the visual sense. It is hard to resist running a hand over the surface of one of his skillfully carved sculptures and one cannot miss the distinctive scent of Bermuda cedar released as he works with this aromatic, native wood.

“Chesley’s sculptures are visual expressions of his hopes, dreams, experiences and interests.”

“He tries to formulate out of wood, bronze and concrete his thoughts and ideas concerning plants, shapes, human bodies and animals that have made an impression on him. Often the essence of that though or idea is expressed in an abstract shape or form.

“After a career teaching art to children Chesley now devotes his time to creating his own artwork. But, his love of teaching means that he makes time to pass on his knowledge and skill through various classes held in his studio.”
