Court: 35-Year-Old Man Fined Over $8,000

November 18, 2015

Appearing in Magistrates Court today [Nov 18], a 35-year-old man was fined almost $8,000 for a string of traffic offences, with the Court also hearing he owed $385 in fines from two years ago.

Andre Parsons owed $385 in fines that had been imposed in 2013, but had never been paid. Mr Parsons was also asked to explain why he had failed to attend Court on past occasions.

Mr Parsons then faced multiple fresh charges, with all charges involving the same vehicle.

He pleaded guilty to not wearing a seatbelt, failing to obey a traffic sign, driving an unlicensed vehicle, having no drivers license, and having no third party insurance on the vehicle.

Mr Parsons asked for time to pay the $385 old fines from 2013, but Magistrate Archie Warner refused that request. However the Magistrate did order that the default time for those 2013 fines would be reduced to thirty days concurrent.

The Magistrate then fined Mr Parsons a total of $7,800 for the new guilty pleas but ruled that the default time would be thirty days concurrent for each of the new fines. The Magistrate also ruled that the total $8,185 in fines must be paid forthwith.
