Police Confirm: Man Dies Following Collision

[Updated - Police confirm the man has died]

A man is in “very critical” condition following a collision at around 1.00am today [Feb 25], which saw the rider collide with the Bird Cage in Hamilton.

Police Media Manager Dwayne Caines said, “At 1.22 first responders attended a report of a serious single road traffic collision that took place on the junction of Front and Queen Street.

“Upon police arrival it was ascertained that a male was traveling west on the same road when it appears the rider lost control of his cycle and collided with the Bird Cage.

“The man was taken to KEMH where at this point his condition appears to be very critical. The area has been cordoned off, traffic has been diverted around the area and the relevant officers are processing the scene.”

Update 2.39am: A police spokesperson said, “At 1:22am on Thursday, first responders attended a report of a single vehicle road traffic collision that took place on Front Street at the junction of Queen Street.

“Upon police arrival it was ascertained that a 35-year-old man on a motorcycle was traveling west on Front Street when it appears that rider lost control of his cycle and collided with the Bird Cage.

“The man was taken to the hospital were he is listed in critical condition in the ICU. Police are appealing for witness to contact police on 295-0011.”

Update 8.19am: A police spokesperson said, “The 35 year old is still in very critical condition in the hospital.”

Update 7.27pm: A police spokesperson said, “A 31 year old man died as a result of the road traffic collision that took place at 1:22am this morning. No further information will be given until the next of kin has been notified. This marks the first fatality for 2016.”

Update 7.33pm:
There are two ages listed above, and the police have now confirmed that the victim is a 31-year-old guest worker
