Video & Photos: International Women’s Day
International Women’s Day was commemorated in Bermuda yesterday [Mar 8], with women and girls representing Bermuda’s political, cultural, public service, business, education and social advocacy communities plus local residents gathering in front at City Hall.
The lunchtime event highlighted the day’s significance, bringing attention to gender equality. The event opened with zumba performances followed by speakers and entertainment. Food and beverages from women-owned businesses was also available for sale.
The United Nation’s 2016 theme for International Women’s Day is “Planet 50-50 by 2030: Step It Up for Gender Equality.”
The UN observance of International Women’s Day focused on how to accelerate a worldwide agenda on women’s empowerment, with women and girls at today’s event sharing their perspective on these themes and what kind of world they envision in 2030.

The event benefited The Women’s Resource Centre, one of the island’s leading support resource for women and girls with education, counselling and advocacy programs dedicated to enhancing their lives. The event saw a number of speakers, and local students collected charitable cash donations at the event.
