At sometime around 5.30pm this evening [May 19] there was a collision on St David’s Road, just east of Emily’s Bay Lane, which resulted in the car overturning and landing on its side. Reminds me of a song from the 60′s………………………………

    A whiter shade of pale………………………………………..

    • Raymond Ray says:

If not mistaken, isn’t that a straight and flat road? :-(

      • Andrew says:

Ummmmm Ray when was the last time you were in St. Davids??? That corner is deadly in wet conditions. Quick to react with this comment. Anyone from the east will tell you about that corner.

        • Raymond Ray says:

Looking at the photo it appears to me that’s a straight road…but yes, it just maybe deceiving.

        • islander says:

Perhaps people should have chains on their tires for rainy weather as they use for snow. I wonder how many St David’s Islanders have had accidents in this area going and coming.

    • The Guy says:

Example of the consequences of a jeep or top heavy cars. They flip very easily!

  2. Albie says:

    Bad car!

    lazy car!

    Get up!

Surely there is a manufacturers defect with cars being imported to Bermuda. Where is the recall notice?

    • ididmyhomework says:

That car actually is banned in the USA due to failing roll over tests
so is the Suzuki Jimny which is a popular car here in BDA

  3. CommonCents says:

In some countries, insurance companies are requiring high risk drivers to install monitoring devices in their vehicles. The devices record speed, location, braking etc. It helps the insurance company to assess driving habits. Refusal to install may result in policy cancellation. Chronic speeding may result in higher premiums – or cancellation. Perhaps local insurance companies should consider this for drivers involved in these single vehicle “accidents” where the car flips for no good reason.

    • Ann says:

Fabulous idea, it will probably save a lot of walls too!

      • CommonCents says:

It could also mean lower premiums for drivers with good driving habits.

        • Triangle Drifter says:

45 plus years of driving. Never had an insurance claim. I am sick & tired of paying for others bad driving habits.

          • Triangle Drifter says:

I guess the dislikes think that good driving habits should not be rewarded.

          • Ash says:

Get third party, that’s what I have for my bike, never made a claim and never plan to. I don’t like the insurance companies so they’re getting as little of money as possible and the only reason they’re getting any of my money is because it’s required by law.

            • Triangle Drifter says:

Never said what type of insurance I have but yes, it has always been 3rd party. Even that is expensive with the full discount.

I own a vehicle in the US, full coverage on that one, where the insurance, full replacement among a bunch of other benefits, is far less than Bermuda even considering the Bermuda add on of 100% for almost everything we buy.

          • 3Pandas says:

You’re not paying for the habits of bad drivers, you’re paying for the salaries of the insurance industry executives.

    • Ann says:

How someone could dislike your comment I’m not sure, I’m actually going to call our insurance agent and enquire if this has been discussed.

      • Sebring says:

        Get a life!

        • Triangle Drifter says:

There is one of them. Wonder how many claims he/she has had?

  4. wahoo says:

    Flip!

  5. Kangoocar says:

I am told wet roads when you are doing 35kph, ( the speed limit ) can be very dangerous theses days???

  6. Time Shall Tell says:

Anyone else notice the large uptick of cars that have been flipped over in the last couple months? Just last month we saw a car flipped on the same stretch of road practically right after the clean up crew had just finished clearing the streets of debris from another car that had flipped just a couple hours prior. Also what is it with the large rise in drivers that are trying to merge onto the main streets, that continue to creep out rather than stopping at the marked location on the road thus resulting in half of their car out in the street (with some not even stopping at all but rather doing a slow steady creep onto on coming traffic while looking you in the eye with disgust for not slamming breaks to let them out). this creates an obstacle to the other road users who have the right of way which is especially dangerous on blind corners & wet roads.

    • Verly says:

Some side roads have very poor visibility unless you creep out. Then you have the drivers that blast you down with their horn when they know you’re attempting to make your way out!!

    • Triangle Drifter says:

What happened to courtesy on the roads? Letting another vehicle out costs a couple of seconds & if more do it the favour will be returned many times over.

No question. Bermuda roads are terrible. They are too narrow for the vehicles that use them. Sightlines at most intersections are awful. Driving standards are very poor. Enforcement of dangerous driving is non-existant.

      • Time Shall Tell says:

Triangle Drifter, if the driver can clearly see a good ways up the stretch of road & yet still decides to inch out into oncoming traffic then there’s not courtesy being extended. Besides, there’s laws of the road in place for a reason, road users should either follow them or catch the bus.

      • jussayin says:

best and safest way is to just wait for the road to be clear then pull out. seen to many accidents from people stopping in the middle of the road to let a car out.

    • Craig Clark says:

An increase in aggressive/careless drivers who think of no-one except themselves. A wet road doesn’t have to be dangerous if you drive according to conditions.

    • Time Shall Tell says:

Just witnessed the immediate aftermath of yet another car that flipped over a hedge today around noon just after crossing the swing bridge heading into St.George’s.

  7. Davie Kerr says:

I’m sorry, but, in a country with a 35kph speed limit, there’s simply no excuse other than bloody awful driving.
