Court: Man Denies Sending Offensive Message

August 4, 2016

Appearing in Magistrates Court this morning [August 4], a 76-year-old man denied sending an offensive and menacing message, and also requested restitution in the amount of $35 million a day for the police allegedly taking his car.

Abdullah Furqan denied that on 7th July 2016, he had used public telecommunications to send a message that were offensive and menacing.

Mr Furqan replied to the Magistrate’s reading out of the charge by saying that he wanted something done about the Police who, Mr Furqan said, had taken his car and had not returned it to him.

Mr Furqan told the Magistrate that he, the Magistrate, should assist him by directing the Police to return his car and pay him $7 million a day for each day that they had held the car.

Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo indicated that he would treat Mr Furqan’s response as a not guilty plea, and Mr Furqan was given a trial date in mid-September and granted bail at $1,000.

Mr Furqan emphatically, told the Magistrate that he could not attend Court on that September date as he and his wife were going on a 111 day round-the-world cruise.

Questioned by the Magistrate, Mr Furqan replied that he had just booked the trip and was scheduled to leave today. Answering a further question by the Magistrate, Mr Furqan said that he had booked the cruise through a Church Street travel agent but could not recall the name of the cruise line.

Mr Furqan then took the opportunity to tell the Magistrate that he now wanted $35 million a day from Police due to the situation with his car.

This exchange ended with the Magistrate telling Mr Furqan that the September trial date would not be changed.
