Video: PLP Announce New Senator Tinee Furbert
[Updated] The PLP held a press conference this afternoon [Nov 22] where they announced that Tinee Furbert will be their new Senator.
Senator Furbert has a Bachelor of Science in Rehabilitation Services and a Master of Science in Occupational Therapy and works as a Clinical Consultant/Occupational Therapist.
She is also the founder of ICANDO Therapy Services, has served on various Government Boards, and is a founding member of the Bermuda Working Women’s Organization.

She replaces Marc Daniels who resigned earlier this month, while Senator Renee Ming was confirmed as the new Opposition Senate Leader.
Senator Furbert joins the other ten Senators; PLP Senators Kim Wilkerson and Renee Ming; Independent Senators Carol Anne Bassett, Joan Dillas-Wright and James Jardine; and the five Government Senators – Michael Fahy, Lynne Woolridge, Vic Ball, Georgia Marshall and Jeff Baron.

During today’s press conference, Opposition Leader David Burt noted that “for the first time in Bermuda history, the Senate team of a political party will be all women.”
Update 3.21pm: The PLP announcement said, “The Bermuda Progressive Labour Party is pleased to announce the appointment of Tinee Furbert to the Senate. Senator Furbert represents the Bermudian spirit at its best; one that treats strangers as friends and believes we all deserve the same chances in life.
“As chairperson and board member of various Government councils and committees, she has already been a strong advocate for the people of Bermuda and we believe that she will bring that same focus, drive and activism to the Senate.
“Senator Furbert completes a Parliamentary team that has humbled itself during its time in Opposition. The PLP is now even more dedicated to reforming our education system, diversifying our economy and preventing the further disenfranchisement of neglected segments of our society.”
Senator Furbert’s bio, as provided by the PLP, is below:
Senator Tinee Furbert is an Occupational Therapist, who throughout her career has been a passionate advocate for seniors and persons with disabilities, and who works continually to provide assistance and guidance to both patients and their families.
Senator Furbert was educated at Springfield College in Massachusetts, where in May 1998 she received her Bachelor of Science in Rehabilitation Services, with a concentration in Developmental Rehabilitation.
In December 1999, she received her Master of Science in Occupational Therapy. She is certified by the United States National Board of Certified Occupational Therapists, and by the Council for Allied Health Professions.
Prior to returning to Bermuda, Senator Furbert worked at Meridian Manor in Connecticut as an Occupational Therapist in the Skilled Nursing Facility. Following that appointment, she also worked at Manchester Memorial Hospital in Manchester, Connecticut, dealing specifically with Acute Adult and Adolescent Psychiatry unit.
Locally, she has worked at both the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital [in the Surgical Inpatient/Outpatient Unit] and Mid Atlantic Wellness Institute [Mental Health Services/Vocational Rehabilitation unit] as an Occupational Therapist, and at the Department of Health in the Community Rehabilitation unit.
In the private sector, Senator Furbert is a Clinical Consultant/Occupational Therapist for Medical House Ltd. where she performs home assessments for health care access, wheelchair assessments, and training for patients and their families for medical home management and equipment, mobility, lifting and handling – all things vital to ensuring patient safety.
She is also the founder of ICANDO Therapy Services, where she provides intervention for children, adults & seniors.
Senator Furbert has served on various Government Boards; as the Chairperson of Bermuda Government Council for Allied Health Professions, as the Chair of Bermuda Government Disability Advisory Council, and as a member of the Bermuda Affordable Standard Health Benefit Committee. She is a Founding member of the Bermuda Working Women’s Organization, and is the event manager of Tiara’s & Bow-Ties.
Within the Progressive Labour Party, she has served as Deputy Chair from 2013-2014, as well as in other capacities with her branch. Senator Furbert is married and is the mother of two children
Good news more girl power. But what’s that she’s saying in praising PLP diversity and her draw to that?!?!…. complete nonsense! The FACTS do not support her testimony.
I know this young lady she’s a hard worker and very balanced when it involves white and black Bermudians. She could have easily represented the OBA or the PLP. I will say this, I really wish you had selected the OBA Senator Furbert. Good luck and hopefully you can change the stigma that’s attached to the PLP.

OBA is NOT 95% white. Stick to the facts and stop with your rhetoric. Look at the OBA Pariamentary composition. Look at the last election polling results.

Your ranting makes no sense.
Your mathematics are as bad as Burt’s, by your calculations, this country is then 50% black and 50% white. While you are more or less on the PLP figures, the OBA would be somewhere closer to around 60% white and 40% black, and the OBA representation is far more reflective of Bermuda’s racial and cultural make up than the PLP even try for. As for the Mr. Bean truth, it only works when you leave out the inconvenient truths, too many confuse ‘saying it like it is’ with ‘saying it as it actually is’. Loud doesn’t make it truth, it is often used to deafen out the truth.

It would appear that the Senator’s selection was a much easier task than that of the new candidate to stand in Constituency #26. A branch staunchly loyal to Marc Bean having to choose a candidate to support David Burt.
