Free ‘Before The Flood’ Film Screening On Friday
The Peace and Social Justice Committee of the Roman Catholic Church is inviting the public to attend the screening of the award winning documentary Before the Flood on Friday [Feb 17], taking place at 7.00pm at St. Theresa’s Church Hall.
This is the second film in the series on Environmental Justice, and admission is free.
A spokeperson said, “The Peace and Social Justice Committee of the Roman Catholic Church of Bermuda is holding its second film in the series on Environmental Justice on Friday, February 17th at 7:0opm at St. Theresa’s Church Hall in Hamilton.
“With the January session the provocative film Terra was viewed by an enthusiastic audience of 60 plus people of which many remained thereafter for the discussion portion of the night on: Evolution and/or Creation; Managing Population Growth and Resources for over 7 Billion; Animal Slaughter and Human Consumption; Where do we go from here – Internationally/Locally and What’s Happening in Bermuda?

“The February Film, Before the Flood, is an award winning and heart stirring film on Environmental Justice with notable film star and activist Leonardo DiCaprio. And again, after this film the audience will be invited to a discussion debrief.
“With this discussion the participants will be asked to ponder and discuss the following topics: Ecosystems- The Ocean Perspective; Consumer Goods- Local vs Imported; Carbon Footprint – Diet and Health; Weather Patterns/Migration and National Security and Global Warming/Fossil Fuel Consumption and the Bermuda Context.
“The Committee will have its last session in the series on Environmental Justice at the end of April or in early May, 2017 [plans are on the way] in which it will focus solely on the Bermuda Context and provide a platform for our Bermuda Environmental Experts to share about our local environment.
“The Peace and Social Justice Committee of the Roman Catholic Church of Bermuda is interested to raise awareness on all matters of Justice and Peacekeeping in accordance with the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church worldwide. In June 2015 Pope Francis published his second encyclical “Lautado Si” in which he reminded the church of the social justice imperative to care for God’s creation.
“The Peace and Social Justice Committee is a grassroots committee. Its intention is to stir the hearts and minds of all by raising awareness of matters of social justices in our world today to which we might not otherwise pay attention.
“All are welcome. Refreshments will be served.”
