Video: Sakari Famous Wins CARIFTA Medal
Bermuda’s Sakari Famous continues her streak of winning CARIFTA medals, with the high jumper claiming a bronze medal yesterday in the Bahamas after finishing third in the Under 20 Girls High Jump with a top leap of 1.79m.
Speaking to Antoine Jones, Ms. Famous said, “Right now I’m just glad to be over the competition, it was a lot of nerves going into today, but I’m very excited, I’m proud of myself for getting another medal…sixth time medal, so it’s pretty awesome.
“It was a lot of training with my coach, it was great, but it had little hiccups, like weeks off due to sickness, an injury right now, so to be able to actually get a bronze medal on an injury is pretty awesome.
“It’s great to have people cheering, even though they may not be cheering for you, just the surroundings is pretty awesome.
“Thank you Bermuda, thank you very much to my coach, to my family, to my mother, to my sister – thank you, I love you guys so much. And all the supporters, you guys are awesome, my friends – just thank you so much.”
