Court: Cruise Ship Passenger Fined For Assault
A Massachusetts woman has been fined $500 for assaulting a fellow-passenger on a cruise ship.
Gina Martell launched an attack on a female passenger on board the ship at around 9.30pm yesterday, the court heard.
Magistrates’ Court heard that the victim had been having dinner with her family in a restaurant when she left the table to use the bathroom.
Martell, 36, then began yelling at the victim saying: “You got home so late last night, and were in the cigar bar.”
Prosecutor Carrington Mahoney told the court that Martell then attacked the victim “pulling her to the floor and repeatedly punching the back of the complainant’s head, and also pulling her hair”.
Police were called to the cruise ship and Martell was taken to Hamilton Police Station.
This morning Martell apologized for her actions.
Sentencing her Senior Magistrate Juan Wolffe said that he did not feel she had made any expression of genuine remorse for her actions.
Martell was told she had to pay the $500 fine before she was released from police custody to re-join the cruise ship, which is due to leave Bermuda at 4pm.
