Jessica Lewis Nominated For Best Female Athlete
She delivered three medals and one new record to mark the best ever showing by Bermuda at the Parapan Games, and now Jessica Lewis has been nominated for the ‘Best Female Athlete’ award, which is based on performances at the 2019 Parapan American Games.
The Paralympic website said, “The Americas Paralympic Committee [IPC] has revealed the shortlist for the Best Female Athlete of August based on performances at the Lima 2019 Parapan American Games, and the public can now vote for the winner on our website.
“In lieu of the Americas Athlete of the Month award for August, the honour is being separated into three different categories – Best Female Athlete, Best Male Athlete and Best Team – based on results at Lima 2019. People can vote until Thursday [3 October].
In nominating Jessica Lewis, the Paralympic website said, “Enjoyed her best Parapan American performance ever with golds in the 100m and 400m T53, and silver in 800m T53.”
Ms Lewis claimed a gold medal in the 400m, won a silver medal in the 800m, and then raced to victory in the 100m race, claiming her third medal in record setting time to claim three medals overall and mark the best ever showing by Bermuda in the Parapan Games.
The other nominees are Amalia Pérez from Mexico in powerlifting, Ana Custodio from Brazil in goalball, Angélica Espinoza from Peru in taekwondo, Daniela Giménez from Argentina in swimming, Lisbeli Verá from Venezuela in athletics, Omara Durand from Cuba in athletics, Poleth Mendes from Ecuador in athletics, Sara Vargas from Colombia in swimming and Tamara Leonelli from Chile in table tennis.
