Tourism Entrepreneurs Invited To Workshops
The Bermuda Tourism Authority [BTA] Experience Investment Programme will re-open to applications from local entrepreneurs March 2. The purpose is to recruit tourism ideas ready for launch in the third and fourth quarters of this year.
“The beyond-summer approach is consistent with the National Tourism Plan objective of creating more year-round experiences. Entrepreneurs are encouraged to think about air and cruise visitors, because a joint strategy between the government and BTA has resulted in a cruise season that now stretches into December,” the BTA said.
“Ahead of the new application period, the BTA will host two familiarisation workshops for interested applicants—on Wednesday, February 26 and Thursday, February 27. The free workshops, which require online registration, provide entrepreneurs with a comprehensive overview of what’s required in the application process and how best to align their ideas with the National Tourism Plan.
“In 2020, there is a particular focus on four areas of the visitor experience: Food; Cultural Sites; Superyachts; and Bermuda’s historical connection to the sport of tennis. However, applications that fall outside these interest areas are also accepted.
“After the workshops, the online application process re-opens March 2 and runs through March 30.
“Experiences are defined as visitor-centric, non-sports activities rooted in Bermuda’s culture, heritage, performing arts, food traditions or wellness fulfillment. They should be positioned to attract travellers to Bermuda or provide something distinct for visitors to do while they’re out here.
“Successful entrepreneurs who received BTA support last year include: PinkSand Entertainment, which produces all-inclusive packages for “Made in Bermuda Nights” at White’s Island; luxury picnic provider Eettafel Bermuda; Urban Culture Exchange, that offers a party experience over Labour Day weekend; The Supper Club, which hosts food-centred parties at unique locations; and St. Peter’s Mysteries & Majesties Tour, giving a behind-the-scenes look at royal secrets inside the oldest Anglican church in the western hemisphere.
“A separate online proposal process exists for those putting together a sports-tourism event.”
