Total confirmed cases in Bermuda is now 153. Bermuda’s real time Covid-19 reproductive number (Rt) 7-day average remains below 1.

“The 11 pending cases are being investigated further & contact tracing has begun, as a preventive measure. These individuals are being treated as potential cases & have been isolated. The confirmed case identified today was imported & contact tracing has begun.

“The 11 pending cases are being investigated further & contact tracing has begun, as a preventive measure. These individuals are being treated as potential cases & have been isolated. The confirmed case identified today was imported & contact tracing tracing has begun.

“The average age of all confirmed positive cases is 59 & the median age is 62. The age range of all confirmed cases is 18-101 years. 55% of COVID19 cases have been Black; 41% White; 4% other or unknown

” To date, 49 confirmed COVID19 cases were imported, 85 were local transmission (known contact), 18 were local transmission (unknown contact), & 1 is under investigation.

” Out of the 153 COVID19 cases confirmed to date, 65 are male & 88 are female. A review of our testing numbers show that to date, out of the 16,279 tests results received, 153 were positive, 16,126 were negative,” the Government tweeted.

The official Government website has also been updated, and the screenshot is below.

Update 9.17pm: A statement on the Government website said, “Between yesterday and today, the Ministry of Health received 1165 COVID-19 test results; out of the 1165 results received 1 was positive for COVID-19. The confirmed case was imported on the Delta flight 656 from Atlanta on 17 July. We are in the process of contact tracing for this case.

“There are 11 test results are pending. These cases are being investigated further to ensure correct public health action is taken. Such situations do arise from time to time and the Ministry takes all precautions necessary to protect the public’s health. Out of an abundance of caution, the 11 individuals with pending results are being treated as potential cases and are isolated with public health supervision.

“The Ministry’s COVID-19 case management team is conducting contact tracing in all instances as a preventive measure. Public health advice has been provided to potential close contacts, in order to prevent and control the spread of COVID-19; this includes the 14-day quarantine of persons identified as close contacts.

“Bermuda now has 153 total confirmed positive cases. Their status is as follows:

  • ▪ there are 7 active cases, who are
  • ▪ all are under active public health monitoring, and
  • ▪ none are hospitalized or in critical care;
  • ▪ a total of 137 have recovered, and
  • ▪ the total deceased remains 9.

The average age of all of our confirmed positive cases is 59 and the age range of all of our positive cases is from 18 to 101 years.

The average age of all deceased cases is 74 and the age range is 57 to 91 years.

The source of all local cases is as follows:

  • ▪ 49 are Imported
  • ▪ 85 are Local transmission, with known contact
  • ▪ 18 are Local transmission with an unknown contact, and
  • ▪ 1 is under investigation

“Bermuda’s country status is “Sporadic Cases” and the seven-day average of our real time reproduction number is less than 1.”

Minister Wilson said, “I am sure every new case is disheartening news for all of us – not least for the individuals affected and their families and close contacts. Contact tracing begins immediately with every new or suspect case to assure everyone’s safety.”

The Government added, “Public health measures such as mask-wearing, hand hygiene, physical distancing as well as stringent cleaning and disinfection schedules all help to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in public places and workplaces.

“Employers are encouraged to implement their own return-to-work policies which may include a 14-day quarantine after travel and a return to work after the day-14 test result is negative. This is especially important in settings with vulnerable populations such as rest homes.

“The Government would also like to take the opportunity to clarify speculation regarding People’s Pharmacy. The Government does not identify any business or establishment unless there is a public health reason to do so.

“However, there is speculation that the person who broke quarantine on Wednesday, that was mentioned at Thursday’s press conference, was an employee of People’s Pharmacy. That is not true and we would ask persons to refrain from damaging speculation.

“The Government has effectively dealt with the threat of the Coronavirus pandemic by being extra cautious to ensure that we minimise the risk to the community.

“What is most important is that all persons follow the public health guidelines which will ensure that we keep the virus at bay while we reopen our economy.”

What does pending mean? Just causing more doubt and confusion. Were they positive or not?
This is causing more worries for everyone her. Please be honest with all of us. There is another full flight arriving on Monday so what will happen then?

  2. Kathy says:

For public safety you.should reveal which business was affected and it should be closed down for two weeks. For example, if it were a restaurant or a grocery store the people should know where this person that was positive went. It is not right to keep that a secret and force the public to speculate.

On another matter, what measures ate the airlines taking (in particular, DELTA, to disinfect the planes upon arrival and before the next departure? The public has a right to know.

  3. People's positive says:

Could someone please provide more information about the People’s situation and I don’t mean the statement that People’s made about them cleaning after their employee tested positive upon returning to the Island. I mean what days did the employee work? Were the behind the checkout desk, in the toy area, or behind the pharmacy? I shop at People’s and there was a young women employee behind the counter talking about never washing her bike because she was away in school to the other employee, was that the employee who tested positive? Were employees who had contact also quarantined? Customers need to know date and times the employee worked so that folks can trace their visits to the pharmacy. People’s I don’t need to know that you cleaned, I need dates and times the employee worked!

    • Skeptical says:

      This right here!!!!!

    • Skeptical says:

I totally agree! Date and time that the employee worked!!!

  4. Stay put says:

Four months of hard work undone in two weeks. At this rate we will be back to lock down before Christmas. Close the airport, air bridge flights only. Save our island.

  5. dunn juice says:

Sonthe atlanta flights been stopped, right..i mean that where most ofbthe cases seem to be coming from.

  6. Truth is killin’ me... says:

    BAN US FLIGHTS NOW!!!!

  7. Putt Putt says:

I really think it is time to consider stopping Atlanta flights and have a look at a safer gateway

    • AirTravel says:

Do you engage you brain before you write your thoughts. Stop flights from Atlanta……. gee let’s pick another city as a hub, That should stop the problem……NOT

      • Putt Putt says:

Air TraveD___Open your eyes I said look at NY comes to mind before anything in the south DUH. Plus i never said it will stop the problem.

    Tweets!

If you have information that is important to the safety of those on island why does the government only use that one platform?

Many of us do not subscribe to Twitter, Snapchat, Facebook etc. why should we be denied access to what might be, one day, vital information?

A serious rethink of the distribution of important information needs to happen.
Government has the ability to send a text message to every cellphone on the island.
I suspect that government has the ability to ring every landline with prerecorded public safety messages. If they don’t they should.

Similarly government has the ability to alert the mainstream media to disseminate important messages island wide.

Communication needs to be widespread not focused in this context.

    • Ringmaster says:

Maybe Government should consider a Minister of Communication and a department to provide quick and accurate information to the public through mainstream media. I agree this use of twitter snapchat facebook etc is unacceptable.

Oh, wait there is a Minister and a department. So what do they do for their budget of $3m apart from organize weekly news conferences which never start of time and end up for party political matters?

An easy savings of $3m in these cash strapped times.

  9. Pongo Panda says:

Govt! Please stop the Trumpo like numbers game be 100% truthful and open and honest. 11 PENDING well doesn’t that set alarm bells to us in the dark

  10. Brighten Early says:

I think our Government should advise us as soon as they know about positive cases. Most people now are not Social Distancing especially at some grocery stores and even the cashiers don’t tell people not to put their food on the counter when you are standing in the front. I am very upset at the way some stores have changed in the past week as far as the 6 feet rule. Please respect the people who are out there and need a little help.

  11. PANGAEA says:

    THE COLD HARD FACTS.

Bermuda has to face up to reality that this Pandemic is the worst in human history and if not strictly dealt with I guarantee all of you lasting hardship.

We have not seen the worst of it.

We still have surviving Mosquotoes and Rats?

know this fact, that it only takes ONE there are thousands of ONE ‘s all over the planet.

We had better pray and hope a vaxine will save our souls

This C19 virus is going to be with us for many years to come as we all are walking bare foot on broken glass.

When you hear stories of conflicting policy and law

” Don;t leave your home unless you have to leave your home”.

… and other indecisive comments. That in its self sends a mixed message and causes confusion.

Measures need to be strict with time at K.E.M.H.

    We have 9 dead hero’s

We have people in this country who are defiant against all authority, what does it take for them to conform , a young person’s funeral ?

    Penalties which cause hardship.

Wearing a mask this in this comming August heat is going to be hard for many.

Many of you are in phase four and many of us are still living in phase one.

We are fighting an invisable killer enemy.

Why ! do Ministers Burt and Wilson have to beg you evey week to comply failing that ,there will be consequesces.
