Two Police Officers Test Positive For Covid-19
Two members of the Bermuda Police Service tested positive for COVID-19, with the police stating that safety protocols were immediately enacted, both officers remain under mandatory quarantine, and additional cleaning of facilities has taken place.
A police spokesperson said, “Two members of the Bermuda Police Service [BPS], recently tested positive for COVID-19. One of the officers tested positive after returning from overseas, the other, may have contracted COVID via local transmission.
“All necessary safety protocols were immediately enacted once the results of the officers’ tests were made known to the BPS Senior Command.
“Both officers remain under mandatory quarantine and are also being closely monitored by the Health Authorities.
“Additional cleaning of facilities has taken place, with the assistance of a professional cleaning company.
“Contacting tracing has begun and required officers are being tested. Any colleagues who may have come into contact with that officer, have now been tested for COVID-19 and are awaiting their results, which are expected to be received within the next 24 hours.
“The speed with which the BPS Senior Command were advised of the two positive COVID-19 test results resulted in the immediate implementation of our COVID-19 protocols. This should eliminate any further threat to the safety and wellbeing of staff and members of public.
“However, out of an abundance caution, we will continue to closely monitor this situation and apprise the public as necessary, on any further developments.”

Good bye reputation for being Covid free. Any chance we had of capitalizing off of this is likely gone or soon will be.
It could already be spreading because of that first officer. Where did they go between when they arrived back home and the positive test?
They obviously moved after the first result which could have been false negative. Returning residents need to quarantine for 2 weeks or else STAY AT HOME!
why on earth are we finding this out from the police and not Govt???!!!
I hope both officers make a full recovery. All of this while the government are holding the BPS hostage over their contract negotiations by trying to take away their free health care and threatening redundancies like they have tried with the prison officers. Disgraceful behavior by a government who have taken every opportunity to kick this police service around.
Hey UBPer or oba what would you do?
I’ve never voted UBP/OBA in my life but I have loved ones in the service and I can call out my government when I think they are wrong. Which in this case they are.
seems like the 14 day quarantine is/was the way to go.may be harsh but then you probably won’t have some walking about the island then being nabbed
