A spokesperson said, “Since 2008, Masterworks Museum of Bermuda Art has hosted the Charman Prize, a unique competition and exhibition for art inspired by Bermuda. This year marks the 10th Biennial Charman Prize, and Masterworks is encouraging Bermuda’s artists to participate in this milestone exhibition.”

Call For Submissions For Charman Prize 2021 bermuda art

This year’s Charman Prize is “Bermuda, Our Island, in a Changing World,” and Masterworks encourages visual artists of all abilities, working in all techniques and mediums, to exhibit and share their works about, and inspired by our island.

Established to honour, support and encourage local and resident artists, this competition is generously sponsored by patron John Charman, a local businessman and avid art collector.

“The Charman Prize offers the artist an opportunity to create, explore and display their art in an open forum. Additionally, the prize draws out as wide a cross section of the community as possible. It fosters and encourages conversation and truly shows how art is for all! I am looking forward to this year’s entries and hope that the community will similarly enjoy this year’s Charman Prize,” says Tom Butterfield, Founder.

There are 5 judging criteria, with the total prize monies at $18,000. Categories are: Design & Composition, Use of Material, Distinctive and Convincing Style, Inspiration, and the Charman Prize “Best in Show”, valued at $10,000.

“We are delighted to be hosting our 10th Biennial Charman Prize at Masterworks, a major anniversary for this exhibition. Highlighting local artists’ talents is extremely important for us as an arts organisation. Each artist has a unique voice, and we look forward to seeing the diverse and varied interpretations of their visual expression of Bermuda. Masterworks is incredibly grateful for the ongoing support of John Charman – without him this show wouldn’t be possible,” said Risa Hunter, Assistant Director.
