Consultation Submission Deadline Is March 12th

March 7, 2021

After 14 meetings held over the past six weeks to discuss the proposal for the introduction of parish primary schools, the Ministry of Education will hold its last meeting on Monday, March 8, and are also reminding people that the consultation submission deadline is on Friday, March 12.

A spokesperson for the Ministry of Education stated: “This is an opportunity for stakeholders and all community members in Hamilton, Smith’s and Warwick Parishes to join in and hear about the proposal to introduce parish primary schools, offer their feedback and ask any questions. Additionally, anyone else who missed any of the previous meetings can join as well.”

“Our goal since beginning this consultation process in mid-December 2020, was to ensure the community had as much opportunity as possible to learn about and respond to the proposal for parish primary schools.

“It is our mission to gather as much feedback and input as we can from key stakeholders, the general public and the broad community, before the consultation submission deadline on Friday, March 12.

“After that point, each and every comment, question and viewpoint, including any alternatives will be reviewed, considered and discussed by the Minister of Education and technical officers before making a decision.”

“This process will take some time and it is expected that any decision will be shared before the end of the current school year. A Consultation Decision Report will also be written and published for the general public.

“Education Reform is an initiative of national importance that will impact everyone in the long term. We encourage all Bermuda residents to get involved, set aside just two hours, join the presentation on the vision for public education and the proposal to introduce parish primary schools. Share your feedback before the deadline next week.

“Education reform will prepare our children today and future generations so that they are prepared to compete with their peers both locally and globally. This is why we are determined to make the best decision possible for all our children.”

“To register for the final consultation meeting on Monday, March 8 at 6 pm, visit: http://parishschools.live/parish. Due to COVID-19, this meeting will be held virtually via the ZOOM video-conferencing app, and will also broadcast live on the Government of Bermuda’s YouTube, Facebook Live and CITV Channels.

“Anyone experiencing difficulty registering can email comms@moed.bm. Additionally, stakeholders can learn more about the proposal for parish primary schools by reviewing the Parish Primary School Consultation Document, which is also available at www.moed.bm.

“Responses to the consultation should be submitted using the Parish Primary School Consultation Form. This form, which is also included in the consultation document, can be submitted by hand to the Ministry of Education, located at 44 Church Street [West Building], Hamilton, HM 12.

“Questions, comments and feedback are welcome and can be emailed to consultation@moed.bm. Again, please note: the deadline for all consultation submissions is Friday, March 12th, 2021.”
