Narraway & Conyers Continue Tour Of Americas

June 21, 2021

Nicholas Narraway and Caitlin Conyers were back in action competing on the Tour of America’s Dairylands in the 2021 ToAD – D2 Criterium in Janesville, Wisconsin.

This stage was a 0.85-mile criterium that ran through downtown Grafton. This six-corner course with two small hills and a 110-degree final corner was a leg ripper.

Narraway, competing in the Men’s Pro 1 / Cat 2 race, did not finish. With 25 additional riders compared to the night before, the exciting Grafton course was a full speed from the start, a collision with another rider 10 minutes into the race sent Narraway to the pits early with a mechanical.

“It wasn’t until I reached the pit that I realized my rear derailer was torn from my bike,” he said.

“I was able to borrow a bike and jump back in but the race was fast a rough. Being on a bike too big for me when riders were knocking each other around could have been dangerous, so after a few more laps I retired from the race.

“I was hugely disappointed because I felt like I was just getting going, but I would rather be safe so I can race the next 7 races in this series”.

Conyers finished 26th out of 28 in a time of 1:13.24, competing in the Women’s Pro 1 / Cat 2 race, with Makayla MacPherson clocked a winning time of 1:13:11.

Once again the race was fast-paced from the start, Conyers planned to race smarter and conserve energy was once again in play as she work to sit in the peloton until the last 15 minutes of the race.

Conyers said, “I attacked solo with about 5 laps to go, taking the $100 prime lap. I was able to hold the advantage for about 2 laps before the group caught me.”

“The final corner was a 110° turn so I knew I was gonna have a tough time if it came down to a field sprint, and the group usually gets strung out on the last lap with teams doing their lead-outs.”

“With 2 laps to go, I attacked solo again and tried to make it to the finish line, but got caught by the group before the second last corner,” Conyers went on to say.

Conyers continued, “My legs just didn’t have quite enough in them to make it. But I left it all out there, and it was so much fun having the crowds lining the finishing stretch cheering me on.”

“It’s really great to be racing again and I seem to be getting the hang of crit racing – which is what this week is all about for me.”
