Costs: Electric Buses & Minibuses For Schools
An official Government notice has detailed some of the costs associated with minibuses for school and the new electric buses which are scheduled to go into service in April 2022.
MiniBuses For School Bus Transportation
The notice said that from September 2021 to April 2022 the Bermuda Executive Minibus Alliance was paid $222,175 for school bus transportation, and during the same dates the Bermuda Island Minibus Association was paid $247,030 for school bus transportation.
It also stated that $628,075 was paid to the Bermuda Minibus Association from February 2021 to June 2021 for school bus transportation, while Flexi Transport Services was paid $63,875 in 2021 and 2022.
Electric Buses
The notice also provided some details on the costs of the new electric buses, stating that Xiamen Golden Dragon Bus received $3,696,000 for electric buses, Xiamen Xinfengyuan Industry Co was paid $66,227 for electric bus parts, a cost of $66,830 was paid to Meyer Freight for shipping of electric bus charging stations, while the shipping of electric buses cost $265,871 through Bermuda Container Line Ltd.
In December 2021, Minister of Transport Lawrence Scott announced that 30 electric buses were purchased from Golden Dragon Bus Company in China, and they are scheduled to go into service in April 2022.
The Minister noted that each bus cost $114,200, saying that by “comparison, the last diesel bus purchased from Portugal in 2018 cost $250,000.”
