Jawando Releases ‘Seven Black Fathers’ Book
An American author and politician, whose wife has strong family ties to Bermuda, has released a book which “recasts the image of Black fathers” and was recently featured on the NBC Nightly News.
Will Jawando has published his memoir, My Seven Black Fathers: A Young Activist’s Memoir of Race, Family, and the Mentors Who Made Him Whole.
Mr Jawando’s wife, Michele Lawrence Jawando, spent her childhood vacations in Bermuda, staying at Clayhouse Inn with her grandmother, the late Althea Browne Lawrence, sister of Dame Lois Browne-Evans. The couple has four children.
An attorney, activist, community leader, and council member in Montgomery County, Maryland, Mr Jawando recently appeared on NBC Nightly News promoting his book.
“I only have one biological father but each of these men [My Seven Black Fathers] played an integral role in making me who I am, and my journey to wholeness,” he told interviewer Lester Holt.
“These relationships literally change and shape lives, and that’s what happened to me.”
