Premier Burt: Casino License Is ‘Good News’
“This is good news,” said Premier David Burt today after the Bermuda Gaming Commission’s announcement on Friday that the St. Regis hotel has been granted Bermuda’s first casino license.
The Premier said, “This represents new employment opportunities and a potential increase in hospitality jobs. The process has been a long and detailed one in which the Commission and the hoteliers have worked together to ensure that all aspects of the statutory requirements are met.
“The hotel’s owners have demonstrated a genuine commitment to Bermuda and to the East End of the Island and we truly value their contribution to the tourism industry and the community.”
“The development of the casino industry is one of the four lead initiatives of the Government’s Economic Recovery Plan and with this announcement Bermuda moves a step closer towards realizing that goal. This bodes well for additional investment into Bermuda and into tourism in particular.”
The good news would be to have a new Premier.
LOL
This guy still spewing his rhetoric..
Why st Regis, not princess. FOF
Where’s my bulbs egomeir
Gaming will do nothing to fix the ill’s put on Bermuda by the PLP Government from jump!!!
Gaming will raise revenue for the Government if gaming ever happens in Bermuda.
The issuing of a licence is only the first of 3 steps, as the Gaming Commission has explained. See https://bernews.com/2022/10/casino-licence-granted-hotelco-bermuda/
Of course, the issue of whether any bank will touch the proceeds of gambling when the Gaming Commission is subject to political control remains to be seen.
Too bad the east coast of America is littered with well-established casinos that people can drive to and enjoy.
You can’t even bet on sports in bermuda so do you really think a casino is coming lol.
Premier Burt’s announcement regarding the casino license is indeed ‘good news.’ It signifies an opportunity for economic growth and development in the region. Casinos can have a positive impact on local economies, generating jobs and tourism. However, it’s essential that this development is carried out responsibly, with strict regulations to ensure fair play and the prevention of problem gambling. It will be interesting to see how this unfolds and the benefits it brings to the community.
Joey,
You are commenting on an article that is a year old. Since then the Hamilton Princess hotel has announced that it has given up on having a casino.
Casino gaming is not going to happen in Bermuda until and unless the Government changes the law so that no Government Minister has any influence over gaming in Bermuda. The PLP Government will not do that. Hence there will be no casino gaming in Bermuda, at least not any time soon.
