Football: Paget Lions & PHC Zebras Win
Paget Lions and PHC Zebras both claimed victories in the Shield & Friendship semi-finals.
Shield Semi-Final: Paget Lions 4 – St. David’s 0
The Paget Lions advanced to the Shield final following their 4 – 0 win over St. David’s at the Bernard Park.
Dion Stovell gave the Paget Lions the lead in the 14th minute; taking a pass from Antwan Russell, Stovell calmly placed the ball beyond the outstretched left hand of St. David’s goalkeeper Shomori Fox.
The lead was doubled in the 17th minute when Diaje Hart was able to control a long ball and have his strike go in off the upright. Russell made it 3 – 0 in injury time of the first half when he converted from the penalty spot after a foul in the box.
In the 67th minute, the Paget Lions went ahead 4 – 0 when Hart scored his second goal of the game.
The Paget Lions will now face Young Men Social Club in the final on New Year’s Day.
Friendship Semi-Final: Somerset Trojans 1 – PHC Zebras 2
The PHC Zebras came from behind to advance to the Friendship final with a 2 – 1 win over the Somerset Trojans at the Bernard Park.
The Somerset Trojans took a 1 – 0 lead in the 13th minute when Jahiem Iris found the back of the net from a cross.
In the 31st minute, the PHC Zebras leveled the score when a free kick from inside the PHC half found Paul Simons on the edge of the Somerset Trojans box; he was able to control and blast a shot that left the Somerset Trojans goalkeeper Jade Morrissey stranded.
The winner came in the 87th minute when a Marco Warren cross eluded Morrissey and found the back of the net, earning the PHC Zebras the win.
The PHC Zebras will face the North Village Rams in the Friendship Trophy final on New Year’s Day.
